REALLY? Hard Candy
I was doing so well yesterda. Well done Steak, quinoa, well done broccoli, peppermint tea and a fizzy water. I sucked on 2 pieces (spread throughout the evening) of cinnamon fire hard candy. About 9:00, urgent explosive D and bathroom cleanup afterwards. Could it have been the candy? I'm so disgusted.

my thoughts on where the issues might be
have you had quinoa before ie before MC and before starting this eating plan?
you may not be able to tolerate the quinoa
the peppermint tea - have you checked the ingredients, some teas have soy in them
what are the ingredients of the hard candy?
Since having MC, if I am inflamed any fizzy water causes me gas,
Keep in mind, it might be the combo of these items that caused the issue
ie the quinoa on its own might be ok, but with the peppermint tea and the hard candy causes issues
try each item on its own to determine if any one item is an issue

Boy howdy. This is a rocky road indeed. Forget food for now. I'm just gonna go pet my cats, especially Emily whose snuggling in my lap right now. I know she's safe to nibble on.
Thanks Gabes, as usual. I had had quinoa the night before with no problems and fizzy water and peppermint tea. I was fine but, perhaps, not all together. Ugh!

Sandi,
Here's the main problem with quinoa: A few years ago there was an uproar in the celiac community when it was discovered that much of the quinoa that is grown in the mountains of South America is harvested before it dries on the stalk and then it's spread on tarpaulins or sheets and mixed with barley or some other grain to help with the drying process. Barley (and a number of other grains) contain gluten, and sometimes they are not completely removed from the quinoa during the cleaning process, resulting in quinoa that's cross-contaminated with gluten.
I have no idea whether this problem still exists with some brands of quinoa, but I do know that kosher certified brands of quinoa are gluten-free. Non-kosher brands may or may not be gluten-free. To be safe, always look for a kosher symbol on the label of any quinoa you buy.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
