Nystatin

Post by Vanessa »

Is nystatin safe for MCers? Long back story....just wondering if anyone has used this oral anti fungal in the past? How did you fare. Still searching for answers, fatigue and other problems so great, fear of losing job is entering my exhausted mind.

is the fungal issue in your gut? or elsewhere in your body?
are you 100% certain it is a fungal issue?

There are non medication solutions for fungal issues, that are less risky on your your MC/gut health.

my thoughts are
-if you are 100% sure it is a fungal issue, and the doctor is confident that the nystain will resolve the issue then it will be dealing with the gut reactions

-if this is a try it and see, I would be cautious about taking the med and give further consideration to non medication solutions
ie coconut oil (which is way safer for MC'ers)

as you know everyone is different, its up to you to gauge the risk persay about how well your gut will handle medication, and if you do react how well you think the gut will heal.

Thanks for the info Gabes

Found a nurse practitioner who believes the way we do, took a long time to find her....tests are still pending. She had mentioned this drug since I had tried the natural remedies in the past without good progress. I feel in my "gut" that I have major candida overgrowth in gut alone. I have a list of 30 symptoms that correlate. There are so many variables with this disease. Since getting off of my medication I have been terribly ill despite very bland diet. Fatigue, insomnia with pounding heart at night and high BP, menstrual irregularities, new onset of headaches daily, burning mouth, new onset of itchy eczema on legs. She's testing SIgA levels, hormones, h. Pylori, holter monitor, MRT LEAP testing. I know it could be something I'm eating.....but my vital life force energy is nearing zero.

Time will tell. Trying to up magnesium as much as possible. I feel I need a leave of absence from work so I can concentrate on getting more rest and doing actual elimination diet. Too overwhelming with the job I have. The sleep deprivation makes you feel as though your going mad and sure messes with blood sugar!

Vanessa,

Every symptom you listed is associated with a severe magnesium deficiency. Every one of them. If you're only taking oral magnesium, adding some topical applications might help.

If your nurse practitioner does some blood tests, ask her to check your magnesium level, but do not take any magnesium supplements on the day of the blood draw until after the blood is drawn. If you take any magnesium at all on that day before the test, it will show your magnesium level to be normal when you receive the results. That also includes topical applications — skip them until after the blood draw in order to get meaningful test results.

Hi Vanessa

I was on nystatin a few months ago before I was diagnosed with MC. I had previously had a test that indicated some Candida. The nystatin didn't do anything beneficial at all. Hopefully it didn't do any harm either but I am not sure about that. If I could go back I would be trying more natural remedies first as Tex and Gabes have mentioned.

Thank you Tex and Linda,

Good suggestion on testing the magnesium. I know I can get the RBC magnesium blood test on line. Dr. Dean says it tests 40% of your mag level to give you a good idea and to make sure your level is around 6.5(can't remember measurements). My lady might have tested it already. I took no supps for a couple days and she took 10 vials of blood. Thyroid is good, as well vit D. She told me to stop taking iron since my level was high.

One theory I've been thinking about. I had to stop all supps including mag for a week for testing. Even though the heart pounding was starting before this, it may have been severely pronounced as days went on making it almost unbearable. Now that I'm back on mag and started period a week early, I slept soundly for first time in a week. Still noticed heart but was in the background.

I have just recently started Picometer mag which may be causing heavy metal detox among other detox reactions. My flare had started before this but other syptoms seemed to rev up. I don't get hardly any calcium from diet ( no almond or coconut milk). Also use mag oil / lotion/ Epsom salt soak in rotation. Don't know whether to keep adding until syptoms abate or hold off. Who knows? I may require 1,000 mg right now from adrenal stress and other factors. I've known from beginning my hormones play a delicate role somehow.

I also believe the benzo I was taking wreaked absolute havoc on already delicate endocrine system. How could it not?

Thanks again for all the suggestions.

Since you are not enough getting calcium in your diet, is your blood calcium level OK? Calcium is also a vital electrolyte and when blood levels run low the body pulls calcium from the bones to keep the blood level in the normal range, but that's not an ideal arrangement in the long term. Are you taking a calcium supplement? If so, it should be close to 1:1 ratio with magnesium. Taking more calcium supplement than magnesium can cause problems, especially if you have a magnesium deficiency.

You're most welcome,
Tex
