Started Budesonide today

Post by grhandlan@comcast.net »

It's been almost 4 months with WD and I feel like I am DROWNING !! I actually called in sick to work today. I am going to start the steroids--this disease has beat me into submission. I have been dropping food types for the past 3 months. I have been GF and Casein Free for a couple months, (I thought) come to find out my gf bread and gf/df/pretzels probably have gluten and do have soy. Went grain free paleo (autoimmune), almost a week now (sunday). Will stay with this.

The WD got worse when I was trying to figure out what Mag and D3 to take. Once I found the Mag Glycinate (pill form) I started taking 200mg 3 times a day. This was a miracle for my fatigue and severe body aches. I have the spray oil I use after showering.
The problem is I have WD! too much of it! I am weak and shaky in the morning, so I took my first dose of steroids this morning.

I am open to advice, thanks Gena

Hi Gena,

Consider your friends here and Entocort your lifering!

Entocort helped me while I was figuring out the diet. I had solid stool in about 3 or 4 days on Entocort then constipation in two weeks. I stepped down to 2 pills at two weeks due to constipation. Most US docs recommend 3 months on Entocort. On the board we find that slightly longer stay has really good results. I stayed on Entocort for 4.5 months after listening to the board. Many have good results at 4-5-6-or 7 months. Don't let your Doctor push you off of it to soon. Getting off too soon can lead to relapse. Suggest listen to your body regarding step downs. On the board we find long slow taper at low end works good. Example...at low end I was on one pill every other day for about a month, then every third day for around three weeks, then I got off.

It takes A LOT of protein to heal from this disease. Stick to simple foods and overcooked veggies. Protein--a lot--rice, potato or sweet potato and a little overcooked veggies. Paleo is a good way to go, avoid raw foods. Even now I don't do well with processed GF foods.

Gena, it also takes a lot of rest to get into remission.

Hi Gena,

I agree with Brandy 100 %. The budesonide will help to control your symptoms and make life much more pleasant as your diet changes allow your gut to begin the healing process. Be kind to your body while it's recovering from all the damage. As Brandy mentioned, rest and relaxation and plenty of protein are essential for expediting recovery. Processed foods tend to be so treacherous for so many of us that avoiding most of them completely will almost always significantly expedite recovery.

Please keep us posted on your progress.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

HI Gena. I also had great results with Entocort. I was on it for 6 months total, lowering the dose each time I got C and weaning slowly off of it in the last month. Besides being GF, DF, and SF, I also didn't eat fresh fruit or much sugar and only used olive and coconut oils. Worked like a charm. I am 4 years post Dx and never had to go back on the drug. It takes time, but after a year of healing, I was able to test foods back in ( like salad and beans) with success! I can now eat almost anything in small amounts but opt to stay gluten free. What also helped me tremendously after going off Entocort was that i added an OTC antihistamine. Good luck. I hope all goes well!
