Bad News!
I guess I was crying so hard I forgot to send the last messages....I just found out that I AM being cut and may receive a 60-80% contract next year...I am devistated...finally stopped crying...but I look like doo doo...finally told my kids that I had some bad news, but I would be fine. My boss is going to try to find some other jobs at school to help me through...she was very supportive...many other teachers are facing cuts too...not just in the arts....I had a horrible fear that this was going to happen...and...I was right. If I organize the ski program next year, she will make sure that I AM paid for it! Thanks for listening....JJ
Awe Jill..........I'm sorry you got the bad news. On the bright side (probably not for you but....), you are receiving a 60-80% contract instead of a zero %!!!
I'm sure with your determination, friends and family support, you will get through this. Don't worry about coming here to vent - our shoulders are mighty big!
Hugz,
Mars

So sorry to hear that your fears were realized. At least the suspense is over and you can begin a plan of action. As I said before, I just know that you will land on your feet, whatever happens!

Polly

Hi Jill,
A cut like that is tough, but as has already been pointed out, 60 to 80% beats the heck out of zero. With your boss's attitude, I'll bet it doesn't turn out to be as bad as it appears now. It sounds as though she will be looking out for you, and this may just be a temporary setback.
At least with this early warning, you have plenty time to adapt to the news, and look around for something to take up the slack, in your free time.
Hugs,
Wayne

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Thanks again you guys...I just wrote a long post and lost it. I hope I will have enough hrs to keep my medical insurance and this will also impact my retirement... I am single...if I were married I would have another paycheck to help with the bills....right now I'm feeling pretty darn sorry for myself and pretty much alone. No wonder the D has been bad again....maybe will need to talk to doc to up the Entocort....sigh.....I am going to order a pizza and drown my sorrows in cheese. I am tempted to start smoking again too, but won't. Thanks again for listening. JJ
I'm like to add my "sorries", etc. to the list. I was really hoping you wouldn't get cut or let go. You have some time to look around for something else though, don't you. I know it's upsetting (I would be) but if you feel you can't make it on the new salary then you need to get busy looking for a different position.
Good luck.......

Thanks you guys....problem is....art jobs are really, really scarce! I also don't have a teaching certificate...I have an MFA which means I can teach at the college level, but not in the public schools. Most art teachers hang on to their jobs for dear life! My best bet will be contacting the local universities and CC's to see if they need adjunct professors. I also used to teach classes for teachers through Seattle Pacific University....might look into that again too. sigh....I need more time to do all this. Thanks you guys....JJ
Jill,
I'm so sorry to hear this. What a shock, even if you sort of anticipated the possibility!
It sounds as though your principal really values your work and you as a person. No doubt she would give you a good reference, and if she can find a way to keep you, or get you back, she would surely do it.
Yes, I think you just need to find a way to chill out and ventilate away til you can get it together, and then you'll be up to making a plan of some kind. I think I could use some art therapy down here, but the commute's a little rough. Did you know that both my mom and her brother i took care of also, were artists? Can't remember if I ever mentioned that. I've tried to get mom to at least attempt to draw something, but haven't been successful thus far. Perhaps I should try again. Have you ever considered doing something in art therapy? I'm sure the satisfaction artistically isn't the same, but it might bring another kind of creativity and satisfaction.
Don't you just hate it when you want to vent, and people just hit you with suggestions?? Ha!
Will be thinking of you, Jill. Be good to yourself, ok.
Yours, Luce

Hi Jill,
I's so sorry. As long as you are on a 60% contract, you have health benefits. My school added classes right up until August, and that's how I went from 60% to 80% one year. So maybe there's still room for change. My heart goes out to you, I was there . . Marsha
