Rough week and a half
For about a week and a half, I've had nausea and reflux horribly. I had attributed the nausea to a stomach flu going around because my middle child had it too. Now he's better and I'm not. It seems different from my histamine intolerance because I don't have gas or D with it.
Does bad reflux cause nausea? I've tried everything from betaine to Tums to pepcid. I can't get a hold on it. I took L-methionine and l-glutamine for a few days, and felt like after I took those caused more nausea, so I've discontinued those for now.
Still eating my safe food, ground turkey and veges. Sometimes incurred bacon.
Any advice is so appreciated! I'm kind of in panic mode right now! Thanks guys!

Hi Martha,
I'm sorry to read that you're having nausea and reflux problems. Yes, those 2 symptoms go together because nausea is often an indication that food is staying in the stomach too long, either because of poor digestive conditions in the stomach or because the pancreas is not producing enough bicarbonate to allow the pyloric sphincter to open to allow chyme to pass into the duodenum. That can cause reflux because if the stomach contents cannot go down, they may attempt to go up to help relieve the pressure/fullness.
If bicarbonate production (to raise the pH as the stomach contents pass into the small intestine) is inadequate, then tums and pepcid should help to alleviate that problem. Since that didn't work, maybe you're just having a problem getting rid of the stomach virus (IOW your stomach isn't digesting food properly). Unfortunately slow-to-resolve stomach viruses are kind of a common problem with MC. Kid's digestive systems tend to recover much faster than adults, especially adults who have MC.
I doubt that L-methionine and L-glutamine would be helpful in that situation. I'm sorry that I can't come up with anything more helpful.

Thank you Tex!!
I drank a protein shake for lunch and took 3 betaine just to see. I couldn't tell a difference either way. Then an hour and half later I decided to take a meclizine. I just now ate supper and when finished got extreme nausea. My husband prompted me to drink baking soda, waiting on that to see what happens. In the middle of this, my 4 yr old daughter told me she was sick.......
I've typically been able to tolerate the reflux and it would flucuate. Its seems this is relentless. Praying it's the virus holding on. I never did have the D like my son did, oddly enough. Just felt like the flu, headache, fever, nausea, and lifeless for couple of days.
I took L-methionine cause I thought it was histamine related in the beginning.

the baking soda helped thank goodness! Guess I now have too much acid and the betaine pushed me over the edge.

Thank goodness you finally got some relief. I'm kind of surprised that the Tums and Pepcid didn't help. Histamine is what the body uses to stimulate acid production (by attaching to and activating H2 receptors on parietal cells) and Pepcid blocks many of the H2 receptors so that the histamine cannot activate the parietal cells to produce gastric acid.

I took the pepcid and Tums the previous day and it helped very little, so I thought I needed HCl.
Course this am, I woke up nauseous again.
I'm trying to push through, and pray this is only temporary....
Thanks Tex
