I will most likely still have to cut the gluten out eventually. The fact that I improved almost immediately once taking the Colestipol leads me to believe that my MC was most likely caused by bile acid malabsorption.

That certainly sounds like a plausible explanation. If only we could figure out why you had BAM. I'm assuming that your gallbladder is still intact.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

the other plausible theory Bearcat is biotoxins/parasites/bacteria. Colestipol/colestrymine is showing great success in treating people for these health issues

It is indeed still intact, as far as I know! It's too bad there really aren't any tests that can detect BAM as far as I'm aware of. I do experience a little more gas/bloating than I used to but I prefer that over stomach cramps and diarrhea.

Cholestyramine along with a paleo diet has helped me control the MC. I am wondering if the MC may have damaged my ileum and perhaps that is why the cholestyramine has helped.

Possibly.. but I took every antibiotic and anti-parasitic medication known to man in order to treat all of those issues.. Xifaxan, Tinidazole, ciprofloxacin, Alinia.... they all showed improvement for a couple weeks but then I returned to stomach cramping and diarrhea.

Dj,
I hope you are doing a little better today! I took rifixan prior to my MC dx. I was treated for"IBS" for 6 or 7 years. It was before my diet. It helped like Tex said for a couple of weeks, but from it I got a yeast infection that took almost 3 months to get rid of. I had never had a yeast infection before in my life. I wouldn't recommend it...

My holistic practitione offered me Xifaxan but the extensive testing she ordered did not indicate that I need it so, I didn't see the point. Since MC, I am unable to tolerate probiotics so I don't want to upset the balance with Xifaxan. I just want it all to go away so I can live happily ever after :pigtail:
