I just have to say that in defense of Budesonide, it was a Godsend for me. It helped jumpstart me, but I also changed my diet immediately. It never totally masked all the symptoms for me so I wouldn't have been able to eat anything I wanted (not that I would have anyway). I'm working my way off of it with no issues either.

Jari, thanks for giving this input....because it does work for some and I'm so very glad that you are on that list.

I don't like taking meds and hate that I have to take the ones that I do, but as far as the Budesonide (or any other treatment), "nothing ventured, nothing gained" and unless I try it, I'll never know. It is just getting past how long you have to take it versus the side effects (I know all meds have side effects)....but that still causes me to pause....that and the cost are the reasons I haven't tried it before now.

Did you do the EnteroLab testing or did you just start the elimination diet?

Thanks again,

I am glad I tried Budesonide. Apart from feeling in the beginning that my head was a bit tense and that I was going to get a headache (but never did) I can't really say that I have any side effects and I am still taking 9mg a day. I can't say that it has normalized everything or that I have gone back to my pre MC habits but I can definitely say that things are better. I don't have a sense of urgency anymore. Things are much more predictable. The doctor said that I would likely gain weight and that my mood could change to be either euphoric or feeling depressed. Well my weight has not altered and my mood is completely even...I don't have any euphoria or depression. So even though I have not gone back to my pre MC habits, I definitely feel that things have improved. Perhaps I had too high an expectation of this medication.

Tex and Gabes, thanks for your comments, they were really helpful. My GI doctor really has been so helpful. However, I think my other doctor had an expectation that I would be cured after 3 visits but it hasn't worked out that way. My naturopath seemed surprised as well that I was not cured though she didn't know that I had MC. I have been feeling responsible for my 'failure' and I have also felt frustrated. Coming to this site has been so encouraging because I am reading of people who persevered to achieve remission. Often it did not come quickly but eventually it did come. It gives me encouragement that we just have to be patient and work our way through and it may take awhile but that is okay. What do they say...'Slow and steady wins the race.'
