Lyme Disease
Hello. Does anyone have any experience with Lyme Disease? I'm starting to think that my son has it. He is a healthy 20 year old college student who works out in the gym every day. He's busy and burns the candle at both ends but he's always been healthy. He came home Labor Day weekend and didn't feel well. His throat really hurt so I took him to Urgent Care thinking it was strep, but it wasn't. When he came home at Thanksgiving he again didn't feel well, sore throat and fever. Took him to Urgent Care, they said it was viral. They gave him an antibiotic just in case which he took a week after he went back to school because he just couldn't shake whatever it was that he had and the antibiotic did help within a day or two. He came home for Easter and again said he wasn't feeling well. His throat was very sore and he woke up sweating. I could tell how much his throat hurt because he sounded "thick" and his glands were swollen. Again we went to Urgent Care to rule out Strep and again he didn't have it. He had a tick bite in 2010 for which the doctor put him on an antibiotic for 7 days. Two years ago he had a tick attached to his stomach after camping in the woods. He went to Urgent Care at college and was given one antibiotic pill (I forget how many mg.) The doctor said that would take care of it if the tick carried Lyme. Last summer he was at a concert and came home with a tick attached to him. I googled this evening and read Lyme Disease can hide out in the lymph nodes. My son will tell me I'm off the wall but I don't think I'm exaggerating things. Sorry this is so long but if anyone has any experience with Lyme please let me know. We live in PA which is a high Lyme Disease state. Thanks!
Marcia

Quick reply...
Lots of good info about Lyme on the mould type forums....
Lyme disease is triggered by bacteria, one means of treatment is cholestramyne, which clears the bacteria/parasites. Enviro toxins of our current lifestyles make these biotoxins worse (wifi, bad diet, pollution etc)
For some, the only way to 'get rid of it' is major overhaul. Diet, lifestyle, treatments that filter bad stuff from blood, major detox to clear toxins/heavy metals.

Marcia,
He needs to have the antibody test that will identify if he is carrying antibodies to the Borrelia burgdorferi bacterium that causes Lyme disease.
Many members here have suspected Lyme, but I'm not sure how many have actually had the disease. Polly even believes that the extended antibiotic treatment that she used to treat a suspected Lyme infection was the cause of her MC.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Has your son been tested for mono? His symptoms sure sound like what my son had, and mono and college students seem to go together.......
I also have a friend who had mono that hung on for many months and took forever to finally get diagnosed.
And here is a quote from the Center for Disease Control website:

Most people get better in 2 to 4 weeks; however, some people may feel fatigued for several more weeks. Occasionally, the symptoms of infectious mononucleosis can last for 6 months or longer.

Yes, I would also test the mono possibility.
My son had it his last year in high school (we call it the kissing disease, because they party a lot), and it took almost three years before he was totally recovered, because the doctors didn't test him, and he did not get any medications.

Thanks, everyone. I should have asked the doctor to test him for mono because I did think of that. The doctor had him lay down and he checked his spleen because he said it would be enlarged if he had mono. His girlfriend had it a few years ago but he didn't get it then. I did mention to him that her throat hurt her so badly when she had mono and that was one of his major complaints. He's now 2.5 hours away at college but I'm going to ask him to go for blood work to try to find out the root cause of his symptoms. He's going to fight me but I'll drive there if I have to!

Marcia,
I have Lyme Disease and was on heavy doses of abx for 18 months (This started in 2002). It was six months before I officially was diagnosed with Lyme. By then, it had gotten so much worse. Finally, I found a LLMD (Lyme literate doctor) in MO, who had me test with Igenex, a company that has an accurate Lyme test. After testing positive, that's when I took abx for many months. Symptoms vary for each individual. I am a believer that you never rid of Lyme disease, and I still maintain periodically when symptoms arise. I feel, also, that the contributing reason I have MC is heavy doses of abx for so long.
I am doing okay with MC plus Lyme right now, but I'm always on guard. I feel blessed.
I wish your son the best.

P.S. If it is Lyme, check out Lymenet online. Tons of information.

I have fingers crossed that it is not Lyme -
I came across this - found it very interesting...
the most interesting was the timing that majority had to stick with strict treatment on the 3 different protocols to achieve remission... The % of participants and the time scales looks quite similar to MC remission journeys....

Marcia, just curious about your son.
I found a tick on my 4 yr old daughter tonight, so I've been googling and came across this. So hope he's better and you got some answers. Sadly, I saw this place yesterday and thought it was a scab. I meant to get a flashlight and magnifying glass to check it out. Today, I looked into it.

Hi, Martha. My son is back at college so I can't have him tested until he comes home in a week. He won't go to a doctor at school. He says that he's fine. I hope your daughter is okay. Ticks are awful. A co-worker just had one dug out of his thigh. He had the bulls eye rash so there's no question about the Lyme for him.

Thank you Marcia! I so hope your co-worker and son are ok. My daughter seems fine right now, but I check it constantly. Since this disease, I'm a worry wort about everything.

I totally understand, Martha. I am the same way. I think it's because we were "normal" one day and woke up and our lives were changed forever.
