Taking Allegra but still stuffed up and itchy

Post by christinafriberg »

I've been on a lamb and mushy cauliflower, 1/2 cup three times a day, diet for a month. 1-2 cups of peppermint tea a day and 1 banana. WD is worse.
I'm upping my magnesium topically, 6000-8000 IU Vit D. I don't think I have any cross contamination. Any suggestions?
Thanks support people!

Hi Christina,
Gee it sounds as if your histamine level is high enough that your body has turned everything to WD. Apparently the Allegra isn't doing its job or you aren't taking enough mg's to get the histamine under control or that darn banana if it is yellow with some spots it has too much histamine in it. It doesn't help that the pollen count is creeping up for some of us in certain parts of the country (our West coast area is getting into Springtime rather quickly).

I would look at Claritin Redi-tab (dissolvable kind 10mg) or make sure to take 180mg Allegra plus for a few nights take a 25mg Benedryl which you can always break in half or buy the 12.5 dissolvable kind too.

You really don't seem to be eating near enough for you to have WD but something is making you react. Have you tried changing proteins to maybe turkey or Cornish hen? You can make a very tasty bone broth with the Cornish hen after de-boning and saving the meat, it is mild and goes well with Gluten Free noodles and a vege such as over cooked carrot seasoned with Sea salt. I can eat that combo at just about any time of day. I freeze BIG batches in separate containers and pull them out at will.

A drink to consider is Rice milk, I noticed you marked cashew/almond and coconut as intolerances. Have you experimented with coconut milks without drinking anything else except water for 2-3 days? If you were having good BM's and tried this experiment and it did indeed give you WD again I'd be surprised but saddened because most of us with MC can tolerate coconut products as long as they are made safe.

I hope you get to a safe foundation soon, there's nothing more frustrating than only eating a few things but still seeing no results. I would continue to make a change every three days until I found my safe few foods and then stick with those for a month, don't try to eat things that disagree after three days.
Cheers
Erica

Hi Christina,

Just to check — you are taking the 180 mg Allegra tablet, not the 60 mg tablet. Right?

I agree with Erica. It would be very unusual to react to lamb and cauliflower, but I suppose anything is possible with this disease.

I wonder about the peppermint tea though. The problem with most tea products is that the ingredients tend to be unlisted, and herbal teas in general have a reputation for containing many ingredients. I've read articles claiming that some brands even contain gluten. I have no idea whether those claims are valid or not, but because most manufacturers do not list ingredients, I stick to regular teas and avoid herbal teas.

That said, I don't know enough about herbal teas to even know if peppermint tea is considered to be an herbal tea.

To further complicate the issue, a few of us cannot tolerate bananas, but that applies to a very small percentage of MC patients.

I hope that you can find the key soon.

Tex and Erica,
Thanks for the suggestions. I've stopped the peppermint tea, switched to green tea. Reduced the amount of banana. Erica, thanks for the permission( :-)) to forgo lamb for a few days
at least. I'll look for game hens at the market. I started the Claritin Redi-tabs today and they are making a positive difference in stuffiness and itching. I also switched to refinded
coconut oil which seems just fine. I so appreciate all the support!!
Thanks again.
Christina

ps Erica what brand of gluten-free noodles do you use? I'd like to give them a try.

HI Christina,

Way to go...you Rock!

I am using Tinkyada Rice noodles in the purple bag with a bunny on it, they cook up great, not mushy ever ;-)

Take care, and I hope you are getting to a better place now :-)
