Very well said, Gabes and Martha. I need to say enough to get what I need, and keep some things to myself. I just wish that there was a medical person, who had the ability to write scripts and order tests, who had some real expertise with this condition. I also with I could find a knowledgeable functional medicine doc. I'm here in New York City, I feel like I should be able to find someone good, but I haven't yet. I don't have the energy to go to multiple people and interview them and I haven't found anyone recommended by word of mouth. I really, really, really hate going to doctors.

Thank you again Tex, for giving a clear explanation of the steroids and how they treat mast cells. This I understand, but I don't think I'll try to explain it to my doctor! I'm not sure, but I feel like she wouldn't appreciate my showing her she's wrong. She's affiliated with Mt. Sinai, but I've learned that just because your name is attached to a well known hospital, doesn't mean you're cutting edge.

Thanks for the kind words.

If anyone knows someone in NYC I should see for LC, please shout it out!

Best,
Adele

Adele,

You're surely correct that your doctor would not appreciate being corrected by a patient. Specialists resent such things even more than PCPs, since specialists are certified by the state as legal "experts" (IOW, they are licensed to testify as expert witnesses in court).

We happen to have one GI specialist in the state of NY who has been recommended by another member here (but I don't recall who made the recommendation). He practices in Plainview, but that's not very far from NYC. Here's his contact information, and according to the website he is accepting new patients. Otherwise, I know nothing about him.

Dr. Paul Pervil
Gastrointestinal Associates
146A Manetto Hill Rd.
Suite 205
Plainview, NY 11803

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
