I've read that this is a good prebiotic, but if it is fiber, will it hurt me?

Unfortunately there is no such thing as a "good prebiotic" for MC patients. Prebiotics have the same basic goal as probiotics, and the claim that they promote "good" bacteria while eliminating "bad" bacteria cannot be substantiated by medical research. They are just as likely to promote the growth of "bad" bacteria as "good" bacteria. In their latest treatment guidelines for MC, published in mid-December, 2015, the American Gastroenterological Association Institute specifically recommends against the use of probiotics in the treatment of MC, and that would surely apply to prebiotic products as well.
4. The association specifically does not recommend treatment with probiotics or Boswellia serrata, when attempting to induce clinical remission.

You can download a PDF copy of the complete treatment guidelines at the link below:

The bottom line is, while it may or may not "hurt" you, the odds that it would actually be beneficial are slim. We are all different, so YMMV (your mileage may vary), but for the vast majority of MC patients, probiotics and prebiotics are counterproductive during the treatment stage of recovery.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

It took about 2 years of healing for me to be able to tolerate much fiber. I ate almost no vegetables during that time. Foods are substances that nourish us. If any "food" is making us sick it is not a food for us and needs to be eliminated. I can now eat salads but it was nearly 3 years in when I added them. For a long time fiber was my enemy even though doctors would suggest it as a treatment.
