Hi again,

I did that test for those other conditions, and mine came back negative. Due to your diagnosis, however, you might have a different experience. I don't think that test is all that relevant in most of our cases due to the fact that we have pretty definitive path. reports, symptoms, etc. Guess I just did it as a way of not missing anything.

I may not have done it until my second specimen was sent in, so who knows what the first specimen would've indicated on that test, but I figure if the diet has fixed that problem too, there's no need to worry about it now as it will stay fixed.

Yours, Luce

Well I ordered the tests last night.

Got panels A and C and the indicator for UC, crohns and MC.

What are the parameters about sending in your speciman? If you go the the bathroom on the 10th and want to use that sample must you send it in on the 11th? or can you wait a few days to send it in? I would like to send it in on the weekends because I dont want to have to deal with it at work... kinda weird to bring in your business to your business eh?

Just letting you all know I took the first step...hopefully I am moving along the right path... I sure hope this is the extra punch I have been looking for.

Thank you again for all your responses and advice! It means a lot to me. And I am glad that you guys want to share your experiences!

Bless you all

Hi and WELCOME!!!

Looks like you've gotten some awesome information already. I'll just add that it only took about a week GF for me to see an improvement in D and it was gone in a month. It took much longer for my other symptoms to subside and about a year for my energy to come back. Of course, I'm about twice your age, so I had probably been dealing with it for a much longer time.

You didn't mention any other symptoms, but for your information there are many vague ones that go along with MC. Aches all over or in specific body parts, foggy brain, depression, lack of energy, and many more.

I'm very impressed by your Grandmother!!! Yes, this is a very Irish disease and many of us enjoy that heritage. I'm 100%.

I'm glad to see that you've ordered the tests. You won't be sorry.

Love, Jean

Hey Jean-

I am straight up 50% Irish, but I dont have red hair or freckles.

As for other symptoms than D and stomach symptoms-

1. Depression- I take 150 mg of Wellbutrin now
2. Anxiety- I take .5 mg of Ativan a day (when needed... almost every day)
3. Lower back aches
4. Definate mental fogginess and just feeling of out of it
5. Ankle joints ache
6. Headaches
7. And last but not least fatigue.

I sure hope I can eliminate some foods and get back to a normal life. I infact I do have gluten sensativity I already have books picked out to buy about the diet.

Did Dr Fine's test tell you that you had all those food intollerances? I have high hopes of his tests'. I am glad that you have figured out what is up with your health. If I ever get better I hope to contribute as well!

Thanks for your advice and kind words.

Terps,

Just a comment on shipping the sample: When I sent mine to the lab, last May, the lab was using DHL overnight delivery service, (all the packaging and labeling stuff comes with the kit). If I remember correctly, they prefer to receive all samples no later than Wednesday, so that they can pre-process all the samples before the weekend, to make sure that they will be preserved properly.

Since it's best if the frozen sample, (yes, you have to freeze it), does not sit in a hot warehouse for an extra day on Sunday, that means that you need to ship on Monday or Tuesday. I"m probably wrong about the Wednesday deadline, now that I think about it, I believe it's Thursday. All that information will come with the kit.

It's kind of a weird feeling to be storing that stuff in your deep freeze, next to your chow, but it's securely packaged. Anyway, is there anyone else who could be on hand when DHL picks it up? I suppose you could keep it in frozen storage for a while, if necessary, in order to better fit your schedule.

By the way, I used to have all those symptoms too, except that my knees bothered me, rather than my ankles. It all disappeared when my diet changes took effect.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Terps,

I haven't had Dr. Fine's tests, but I should someday. I used an elimination diet to find my intolerances. It's in the Usergroup Information on Diet. I was gluten free for 6 months before I started feeling bad again and then found corn, soy and dairy with the diet. Six months after that I discovered rice.

Polly and others were a great help. Polly had done the initial trials to find out her intolerances and I copied her. I expect if I ever get the gene test that I will be the same as her, lucky us!?!

Let us know what books you're looking at, we'll tell you if they are any good. It's not an easy diet to follow, but worth all of the effort. You can also find lists of ingredients that contain gluten (and other intolerances) in that usergroup.

Beginning Jan 1, food must be labeled if it contains wheat, soy or dairy. Food produced before that doesn't have to be pulled from shelves so it is slowly showing up. Gluten from other sources doesn't have to be labeled for another year. That should make life easier for some of us. Unfortunately, corn isn't listed so many of us still have to be careful.

If you start the diet, be sure to ask lots of questions! We've all been through it.

I guess I shouldn't assume that you are going to test as gluten sensitive, but with the symptoms you just mentioned, I'd be surprised if you aren't. I applaud you for finding out so much on your own. Seems like that's how all of us got here.

Love, Jean
