Arthritis Pain

After my initial diagnoses of LC, I researched the disease and found statements that NSAIDs and statins are "linked" to developing LC. Once I shared this with my internist, she advised my discontinuing the prescribed Meloxicam, Ibprofen, and Lipitor. Unfortunately, my arthritic knee and hips have been complaining virulently ever since.

Any suggestions to relieve the joint pain is most appreciated. I have bone and joint arthritis not RA.

Any exercises, yoga, etc?

Have you tried glucosamine? I had quite painful arthritis in my hands--I couldn't move them at all in the mornings until I had warmed them for a while with a rice pack heated up by my husband, I couldn't trust myself not to drop dishes, I couldn't grip well. My doctor recommended Aleve. I didn't want to take that, (even though I didn't have MC yet at that time) so I tried glucosamine. That was about 13 years ago, and I don't have any trouble with my finger joints any more.

I buy glucosamine chondroitin at Kroger, their store brand.

Once I tried going without, thinking I might not really need it. After about a month, the pain came back.

I agree. Gluccosamine condroitin keeps my finger joints from hurting. I only started using it recently and it started helping right away. Also, avoiding all the foods to which I am sensitive helps a lot. I relied on that entirely for a few years but found a slight increase in pain and added the glucosamine and things are better.

for many here avoiding the foods etc that cause inflammation goes a long way to reducing symptoms.

it can take a few months of being 100% gluten free, dairy free, etc to see maximum benefits

I've used glucosamine daily for roughly 16 years, and my joints think they're still young. LOL.

Flax seed oil also helps in many cases.

Donna,

I use Finest Nutrition brand, Triple Strength, which shows 1,500 mg glucosamine and 1,200 mg chondroitin on the back label, but this is per serving and the serving size is 2 tablets. Please note however that this stuff contains shellfish, in case you happen to be allergic to shellfish.

For roughly 15 years I took 2 tablets per day (when I was working hard doing load-bearing work that involved stacking 50-lb sacks of corn on pallets for hours each day). It saved my knees and hips because most guys who do this type of work for years end up with knee and/or hip replacements for sure, but mine are just fine.

I don't do that anymore, so these days I only take 1 tablet each day. I tried doing without them a time or 2 last year or the year before, but after a week or so my knees would begin to ache at times during the day (when walking), so I continue to take 1 tablet per day, plus 1,200 mg of flax seed oil, plus 1,100 mg of fish oil. Please be aware that most fish oil contains soy oil (for some odd reason).

I've also been taking Glucosamine chondroitin for the past 10 years. It helped up until a year ago when it seemed to stop. Although I continue to take it, my arthritis pain has increased in my knee and hip joints. I took Meloxicam which helped, however, I believe that this medication triggered my LC.

Has anyone tried the SCD diet published in Stop the Vicious Cycle?

My GI has recommended a gluten free and lactose free diet. Any publications suggestions?

Thanks as always for your insight. Y'all have been through this and I've just started my journey.

one of the issues with the SCD eating plan is that it still has caesin (dairy) and that is still highly inflammatory.
