Xray results
Wel I saw Doc today & my test results are not very much removed from that expected. Bone density has actually improved which is good news (shows what taking Citrical & having Physical milk which is fortified with calcium is very worthwhile). The bad news is that my back has deteriorated (more degeneration) Not unexpected. It really gives me curry at times, but Robert is very good at giving me massages which do help. I also have a 'Tens' machine which gives relief as well.
Knee & foot show arthritis & other degenerative changes plus fluid in the knee. I am still having Physiotheraphy on the knee & am going to start having some on my back as well. Knee is improving every day & the physio reckons I may be back on the trike within a week if I do the exercises that he has recommended & it continues to improve. See him again next Wednesday so here's hoping.
I need to lose some weight. Have formulated my own diet around foods that I can tolerate & had weigh in with Doc today. I have lost almost 2 kg since I saw her on Saturday. She is very pleased with me & has taken a copy of my food diary with which she is very impressed. Said she may come and live at my place for a while. She is going to see me each week for weigh in etc. Am to see her next Monday as well so a plan for back treatment can be formulated.

Hi Liz,
Congratulations on the diet results, and the improvement in bone density. That's good news on the knee, too. The diet should work even better, once you're able to ride the trike again.

Wayne

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Hi Wayne
I am feeling a lot better & much more positive. My GP is wonderful & is so supportive. The Physio is right next door to the docs & they are working together to get me on the right track. being able to excersise again will help with the weight. Better for the arthritis.
I still have some Entocort here if I get desperate but will try to stay off it if I can. It may be better than Pred but it is still cortisone. If I can get by without it I will. If I need more, I can get it. It is very expensive here, about $160.00 for 90 3mg tabs. But worth it if you need it. Can get Pred for a couple of dollars. Weird eh!

Hi Liz,
That's great news, that you're feeling so much better. You've made my day.
It is strange, the way those drugs are priced. I guess the patent has probably expired on prednisolone, because it is roughly one tenth the cost of budesonide.
Apparently, the Australian government has more clout with the drug companies than the U S govt. If I'm reading the price charts correctly, Entocort is much more expensive here. I've never bought any, so I'm just going by the prices posted on the net, but apparently, in the U S, the wholesale price for 90 3mg tabs, is about $163, in U S dollars, or about $220, in Australian dollars, and the retail price is almost $370, USD, which would be almost $500 AUD, (assuming I'm using the correct exchange rate). That means that U S citizens are paying over three times as much. Hmmmmmmmmmmm. That kinda sucks. Drug prices are apparently out of control, in this country, as they're reaching ridiculous levels.
I hope that you continue to heal, and feel better. You "sound" a heck of a lot better, already.
Love,
Wayne

Oh! My Goodness. That is horrifying Wayne. And I thought we were badly off. But I think our government subsidises drugs, so I don't know what the real price is. As a pensioner I get a national health subsidy & when the total spent on drugs for the year goes over a certain amount, a lot of them are free & paid for by the government. But not Entocort or some other drugs.

Liz,
I lopoked up the price at an Australian on-line phaymacy, and the price listed there, matched what you showed. I think it is priced similarly in Canada. I'm guessing that the proper name for the pricing system used here in the U S, is "price fixing".

Thanks Mars, I need all the encouragement that I can get. The support of the wonderful people on this board is what keeps us going, don't you think. I know that there is not a lot that I can do about some of my problems, but I do have control over my attitude to them. And the areas over which I do have control are right in the firing line at the moment. Determination will get you anywhere you want to go they say. Will step up the exercise when body feels up to it & that should help as well.

Hi Liz,
Yes, it's illegal, but when you're big enough, in this country, you get away with it. About a decade ago, there were a bunch of similar investigations in this country. The justice department spent billions of dollars, but in the end, they didn't convict anyone and they didn't change anything. The problem is that they tried to tackle the biggest, wealthiest companies in the country, and their lawers were no match for the high-dollar lawyers that the companies could afford to hire. Sort of like the O. J. Simpson murder trial.
Remember the big anticompetitive suit against Microsoft, (owned by the richest man in the U S). After wasting billions of dollars of taxpayer money, the justice department ruled that Bill Gates would have to stop packaging his web browser with his operating systems. Big deal! It's still there, and always will be. When the the rich and famous are on trial, we've got the best justice system money can buy. LOL.

Same with some of the oil companies here. People suspect that there is collusion but proving it is something else. Nothing ever seems to be done about. Might is right I guess. The big companies just force the smaller independent one out of business. You can see it all over. If they are not on the phone about it when one changes their fuel price, they must have psychic abilities because as soon as one puts the price up or down, no matter what, they all change within a matter of minutes, even though they may be miles apart.
