Update and help needed!
Hello all. For the last 5 or 6 months I was doing very well. I was not back to normal, however I was being a member of society again. I had very few issues and was back to flying full time and I even started training navy pilots part time again (former job from past). About 3 weeks ago my endocort brand was changed (Par pharmacuticals) and all of my symptoms came rushing back within about 2 days of switch. I finally got back on the mylan brand that seemed to be working. Only now it isn't. I have severe heartburn (never had before), burning D, passing TONS of mucus. I don't know what to do. The only foods I have been eating for last 8 months is rice chex, boiled white rice and hamburger with salt on it. I have tried about everything else with very poor results. Any advice is appreciated. Currently on 3mg of endocort.
Hi Pilot,
Sorry about the relapse. The difference in the products is the inactive ingredients, so apparently one of the inactive ingredients in the Par brand triggered a relapse.
To get back out of a flare, most members here who are using budesonide find it necessary to go back to a full dose (9 mg per day), and stay there until they have been in remission for a while before lowering the dose to 6 mg for a while and finally lowering it to 3 mg. IOW, it's usually necessary to sort of start over with the treatment from square 1.
This is definitely not my recommendation (I'm not a doctor, so I can't offer any medical advice), but if I were in that situation and I wasn't able to regain control within 2 or 3 weeks after resuming using 9 mg per day, I would increase the dose to maybe 15 mg per day for a few days or so to see if that would do the trick. AstraZeneca originally did some trials using up to 18 mg per day with no indicated problems, but Entocort was never labeled for use at that dosage rate. One would not want to continue using doses in that range for an extended period because it would surely significantly increase the risk of developing osteoporosis.
Good luck with your treatment,
Tex

Sorry about the relapse
the start of the GERD is an indication of high levels of inflammation
my first thought - are you taking Vit D3?
my other thought is that some of your triggers not food related, it might be environmental related to your workplace. the combo of the brand change and mega burst of triggers would cause the flare

I think your right tex about a different ingredient. I was on 3 mg for about 5 months and life was getting easier, it is terrible that it went bad so fast.
I am not currently taking d3 or magnesium, it seemed to get worse when i was taking those. I tried the chelated brand that tex suggested awhile ago. I need a d3 that doesnt have fructose in it or corn syrup and junk like that in it. Those things seem to make me worse. I wish i could figure this out. At first the Doc suggested that i go to the er so i dont get dehydrated...but im drinking lots of water and dont want to go thru that. My Doc put me back on 9mg today.....hopefully in a few days i can get back to my new crappy normal!
At my job i am around lots of jet fuel and cleaning solvents because i also take care of the jet i fly; however i always wear gloves and the products i use are non toxic brands.

Freeda vitamin D 3,000 IU has these ingredients:
Ingredients
Vitamin D (as cholecalciferol) 3,000 IU
Other ingredients: Cellulose, calcium carbonate, calcium stearate
But be aware that calcium carbonate (which is an antacid) is a source of calcium, so it depletes magnesium. You should be able to use topical magnesium oil or lotion to offset the magnesium loss from your D and the calcium if you use enough of the magnesium oil. Topically-applied magnesium will not cause D.
Some of us react to vapors from solvents, disinfectants, cleaning agents, engine exhaust fumes, and possibly hydrocarbon fuels, so that could be part of the problem. It's possible that an antihistamine might help, but that's a relatively low-odds suggestion.
You're very welcome,
Tex

the jet fuel (before and after use) has quite alot of toxic outputs like Cadmium.
(and maybe other items like the brake pads etc)
your body would be using lots of magnesium, Vit C, B group vitamins etc to clear these toxins. (impact to methylation cycle which links to MC inflammation etc)
using a safe Vit D3 and topical magnesium would help.
