Update From Maggie and Thanks to All

Post by MaggieRedwings »

Morning All,

Well first post kicked me out. Back to the same old posting problem for me. Will copy this before I post and e-mail separately to Wayne if it does not take.

Thank you one and all for your concern.

Based on family history - morbid - dizzy spells for the past six months and the high cholesterol the doctor felt and he is great that I was a walking time bomb and did not want to take any chances. The ambulance was unexpected but in some cases it is best to use that tactic and go through an emergency room and it gets the insurance companies, referrals, second opinions off one's back. This was not his reasoing but still made me happy. One less stressful thing.

Heart cath was done immediately and the valves, arteries and veins are just fine with zero plaque blockage. The electrical side of the the problem is not good since the heart is pumping 85 to 90% blood out each time instead of 50% and there is a tremor or electrical blip that is occuring in the bottom chamber of the heart. Beta blocker is now on my menu and a heart monitor starting Wednesday for a week. More blood work, appointments, etc.

The dietician tried but GF coupled with being a vegan and MI left her looking at me like what can you eat? Rice and broccoli with the 3 meal favorite. Today will be adding more natural potassium foods to the menu and will just take it very, very easy.

Back to work on Monday and again, thank you all for your concern and love. Sitting is a little uncomfortable since the cath area - groin - it just a bit sensitive.

Hope this posts but copying right away.

Love, Maggie

Scary business Mags but it sounds like you are in good hands. Take it easy over the weekend and listen to the docs advice!

I'll be sending good thoughts and wishes your way!

Take care,
Mars

:bigbighug: Maggie,

You've really been through the wringer. Dizzy spells - that would concern me too. I'm thankful you went straight to the emergency room! I don't understand the electircal part and what makes that go awry; I was on a beta blocker for a long time for high BP. Is the electrical a genetic problem also?

I was so worried I almost called you but decided that you probably needed to rest.

Many thoughts and prayers and I will call you over the weekend.

Love,
Alice

Mornin' Mags!

So good to see you here. Kick back and spend the weekend relaxing. Sounds like we could be getting a blizzard tomorrow - up to 12 " of snow with strong winds. Of course, it could also be rain - you how how it is living on the rain/snow line like we do! LOL! Be sure to stock up on some good food and videos!

Love,

Polly

Maggie!!

I am so glad you are feeling better and are having everything checked out! I had my only ambulance ride when they transferred me between hospitals for pre-term labor. Since I had an IV in, it was the required mode of transport - I felt kinda silly, but the paramedics were cute and one of them told jokes the whole time

I had the dietician come speak to me in the first hospital....even she admitted she knew very little about gluten-free...she gave me an enhanced menu which had some alternatives (such as kosher meals and some a la carte items) and told me I could order anything at any mealtime. It was helpful, but I still had Mike bring snacks and stuff - the L & D nurses let me keep fruit and drinks in their fridge - they were very nice!! I'm sure MI/vegan really had them stumped!

It sounds like it was a good idea they did the cath and found your problem...it is really the one test that gives the most information, even though it is invasive...now that you know what it is you are dealing with - on to evaluation and treatment...

Take care and rest up!

Love,

Mary

Am finally back on but who knows for how long.

Went and got my car that was left at the doctor's and we are doing nothing but resting this weekend and have DVDs and food for the snow. Am going to really hit the potassium foods hard and starting Wednesday I will be on my monitor for the week. It sucks getting old. LOL

Hi Maggie,

I'm glad that your docs went right to work, and discovered exactly what was going on. Wondering is always the worst part, and getting most of that behind was certainly a good move. Now you can relax and enjoy your weekend.

Well, yes, getting older kinda sucks at times, but when I look at what happened to some of my old high school classmates, who died young, from various things such as drugs, auto accidents, cancer, etc., getting older appeals to me a heck of a lot more than the alternative, namely, not getting older.

Take good care of yourself, and if the system refuses to let you post, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Love,
Wayne

Sorry I also missed all that has been going on with you too! I actually took a holiday from the puter while at my daughters, even though she now has the internet back. And now I am treading through my emails to get them weeded out, some that need responces and others that I want to share, and so on.......I have been doing this since Tuesday evening when I finally got home.

I am so sorry that you are going through these problems with your heart. I also have a terrible family history of heart disease, several of my dads sisters and brothers have had open heart, and while waiting for their second open heart surgeries, died from complications. Recently, as last May, same time that Barbs, Lou was going in for his surgery. Actually, my uncle ended up dying from a complication with his kidney while in hospital waiting for surgery on one of his heart valves, and he was also up there in age, 73 I believe. I am not telling you this to scare you, so hope you don't take it that way, just that I understand the worries, and the effects having had to deal with family members with heart problems. My sister was only I think it was 44 yrs old, she also has diabibetis, though, the same as my dad. My dad was also young though when he had open heart too, I think it was 53. And now he is going to be 71 soon, and for several years now has once again been having heart related problems. Allot has to do with his diabitis, and he has allot of health problems brought on by that, as well as my sister. She is only 48, it has not been very long since her heart surgury where they had to replace 5 blockages, but she has a condition that does something to her arteries and veins, again from the diabitis, and has once again had to stop working. At first they thought they could not operate on her and she would have to go on the waiting list for a heart transplant, but they found arteries in her arms that would work. I am going on and on, sorry. We also have a family history of high cholesterol, even with pills, and trying to watch my cholesterol intake, mine remains high. All of my siblings have the same problem, and one brother is on pills to regulate his heart rythyms. The one thing that I do know is that nowadays, they have come along way in their treatments. Also the medications used to help with the hearts many needs. I wish you the best in resolving this, and do feel for you, I have spent many, many hours in hospital with my dad especially, the first time in my dad's life he didn't get a garden planted because he was in hospital from June till the middle of August because of complications due to once again the diabitis. just seems to take so long to get to the bottom of things and then get it resolved the best way possible. Its the waiting that is hard to handle.
Do take care, and if work is too much, take the time off for your health.
Hugs

Maggie, so glad they didn't find any blockages or things like that. The rest is a disappointment, I know, but I'm hoping it won't be too difficult for you.

I didn't understand why you should only have 50% blood pumping out????
I was told mine was about 70 to 75% and they seemed happy about that.
Well, I have NO training so I don't understand a lot of things.

Anyway, glad you are resting this weekend and wish you didn't have to go to work next week.

Hi Maggie

It ia always good to get these things checked out, especially when there is a family history of heart problems. There is in mine & that is why I had to have an angiogram as well. Fortunately I only had one small blockage which was not considered very important. But because of this, plus the family history which is very bad, I have to have BP & other drug treatments. When they took the catheter out the blood somehow escaped into the tissues. I thought my leg would blow up & I had a huge bruise covering most of my thigh & down below it for a week or so after. I am glad that you came through the angiogram safely with no complications. Hope you have a very restful weekend, you need it.

Love

Liz

Maggie,

There's not much I can add, but I've been thinking about you and hope you get better without much trouble.

If a dietician doesn't know how to feed you, who the heck does!?!
