Remission

Post by Lou Ann »

Hi, I am curious to know what people's definition of remission is? I've had mc for over 15 years ( probably longer) and when I found this forum I was relieved to see I am not alone and frankly it makes me a little confused..lol I'm not great with taking meds just to mask the problem to have it come back when the course is over....and that's all my doctor pushes......the budesonide constipated me right away at 3 a day, fooled around and went to 1 every other day and it seems to still be constipating so I stopped and I am now trying antihistamines which Gabes suggested, which seem to keep me at a tolerable pace....no real urgent D....so far anyway.
I also stopped all artificial sweeteners and NSAIDS, which I took a lot of and I seem to generally feel better aches and pains wise.....anywho....is remission a word that is different to everyone ? Is not running to the toilet 10 times a day remission? Sorry if I sound confused....i am!
Thanks in advance...

hi Lou Ann
good question..

remission can be different things to different people

for some it is a return to pre MC Dx lifestyle with next to no symptoms
for some it is having mostly good days, average day here and there, with minimal symptoms
for some, it is the removal of urgency and accidents and bad symptoms - there are still changes in BM consistency, and some ongoing symptoms but mostly it is 'manageable' and minimal impact on day to day life.

there are a few recent discussions
here are some links

this is a bit older but still may be helpful for your question

the other area to look at is the success stories area,

Thanks again Gabes, that info was very helpful.
Hopefully soon I will learn to navigate my way around better , I'm sure you get tired of all the repeat questions !

Hi Lou Ann,
Remission to me is having a normal BM every day for several months without the use of drugs. Also, the fatigue has gone away in addition to joint pain.

Lou Ann
dont get tired of questions - questions mean that people are being pro-active about getting well and I am more than happy to spend time helping people to optimise their wellness.
MC is complex, and it takes time, discussion, reading to work through the various aspects...
