Against All Grain
Early after my diagnosis I purchased the Against All Grain cookbook. I can't make many of the recipes because she is able to eat a lot of things that I can't (she has UC) but nonetheless it was interesting to read her journey. She was so sick that she almost died and she was able to regain her health by diet and supplements. I signed up for her blog and she recently shared that she has been in a bad flare for several months now. The flare is so bad that she was unable to get out of bed. There was a lot going on in her life - had a baby, antibiotics, eating oats to increase her milk supply, etc. It made me realize how slippery our slope is and how quickly we can go downhill. When I was on vacation I felt a little bit of self-pity as my family was trying new things every night when we dined out and I ate the same old, same old but after reading her blog I am very grateful that I feel good most days and am able to go on about my business. The sun is finally shining in PA and it's going to be a great day! Happy hump day!

I follow her on social media, and it's a great blog post, if anybody wants to read it!

I thought it was also a good reminder that, while we do everything we can to keep symptoms from flaring up, we're still managing these chronic health conditions day by day. There will probably always be highs, lows and in-betweens. And we're not failures if we need medication or have a setback. It's terrible that she's gone through this recently, but it's also comforting to know you're not alone when you're going through something awful too!
