Do We Want A Toilet Access Card For Other Countries?

Post by tex »

I'm not getting much feedback on my requests for information on how a card for use outside the U. S. should be worded. I posted this in my original thread, but I only received a single response.
Will this work in other countries?

Any thoughts or suggestions?

I need some information and insight from residents of those countries if we're going to design a card that will work in other countries both for residents and U. S. tourists.

Someone has already suggested that "Restroom" needs to be changed to "Toilet" or "Bathroom", but that's the only response I received. Surely that's not the only change that needs to be made.

Hi Tex,
I was looking for something here in Canada and came across a downloadable app for crohn's and colitis nothing for specifically microscopic colitis. It has a washroom access alert card
which can be shown from your phone.
" Go Here... " businesses who participate display this sign in their business window and give immediate access to those in need of a restroom showing this card, .
can be accessed from the website crohnsandcolitis.ca. for those in Canada. no idea if it can be used outside of Canada.
Okay, the wording on it is as follows

PLEASE HELP

I live with Crohn's or colitis a medical condition requiring ,urgent, use of the washroom . thank-you for your understanding and cooperation.

your full name is displayed once you have registered with them.
I am not sure why that is necessary , not like they are going to verify you have it. I am sure it will be seen in your face you are seriously needing what you are asking. I did not have any problem registering on their site but have not had to use the card yet so no idea how it will work.

Tex,
.
through my many searches I have not found anything
currently specifically for Microscopic colits . . I realize that MC is not on this card
specifically but I would use this crohn's and colitis card in a hurry if it meant access for me in a MC
emergency. .. Even now when I mention microscopic colitis
to someone else they say, oh never heard of it. You say crohn's or colitis. immediate nod. yes, I understand.
As always Tex, Your thoughts would be appreciated. Thank-you for your time
and effort into all you have done and continue to help all of the many of us around the world as well as in your own country. many hugs. twirlitgirl :pigtail:

Yes, that's exactly why the card says "inflammatory bowel disease" instead of "microscopic colitis" — no one would recognize microscopic colitis. Besides, if the card doesn't specify "microscopic colitis" anyone with any IBD can use it. We obviously can't list Crohn's disease on the card because we don't have Crohn's, and the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation already has a card specifically for Crohn's disease.

The question is, "Does Canada have any laws that provide for special consideration for people who have an IBD?" Or do they just have to plead their case without any support from the government? Apparently there are no laws, because the wording on that CCFC card sounds as though there are no laws that apply.

And from your post I gather that it's called a "Washroom" in Canada.

That's very helpful.

Thank you for looking into this and posting about it. I appreciate your help.

Hugs,
Tex

Hi Tex,
I know there are disablity laws if they apply to IBD's I am not sure. Maybe someone else from Canada can provide that information.
I call it a washroom in my own home and hear that used quite a bit here , so I think that is quite okay to use on the card.
I am really so thankful for your mission to help all with IBD, feel more accepted and resources made available to us
going out in public to eat , with timing being such a sensitive issue , having this in our pocket
is so important. it could mean so much less stress as well. thank you so much hugs :pigtail:
