Claratin

Post by Lou Ann »

Hi again....
Does anyone have a problem with dry lips when taking Claratin? I already have burning mouth syndrome so I surely don't want dry lips on top of it… LOL it is really the only thing I am taking differently so I figured the two are related.
I was trying to antihistamine instead of Budesonide.
Would it be the same idea to take Benadryl before bed instead of the Claritin?

Thanks in advance

Lou Ann,

There is a lot of difference in the way those 2 antihistamines work. It's difficult to predict what the results of a change would be because we all tend to react to medications somewhat differently. Benedryl is a first-generation antihistamine and it has anti-cholenergic effects (implying that it can increase the risk of Alzheimer's disease and other age-related dementia. Claritin is a second-generation antihistamine, but I'm not sure whether it has any anti-cholenergic effects. Many of us use Allegra (because it does not have anti-cholenergic effects).

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
