Happy Birthday Polly!

:manynanas: :birthdaycakecandles: :manynanas:

Dear friend, I hope you realize that you are the source of the inspiration that drives me and many others here to continue to search for answers to all of the questions that surround this disease. We appreciate all of the insight gained from the medical world and your own experiences that you have shared with us.

I hope that you're truly enjoying this special day, and the year ahead will be filled with good health, good friends, and good times.

Polly,

Thank you for all the help and reassurance you've given me over these many, many years! I can't believe we've been on this board for so long. A belated very Happy Birthday! We moved to Arizona 3 months ago. This involved much stress and anxiety for me, but it's getting better as time goes on.

Love,
Alice

Hey there, old buddies!

Just saw this!

Thanks so much for thinking of me and especially for those very kind words. Sorry I haven't been around much lately. I do take a peek now and then and can see that the Board continues to be exemplary in every way. Kudos to Tex and to all of you caring members! BTW, happy birthday to my beloved fellow Gemini, Tex! Hope it was a good one!!!

I am convinced that gut problems are part of one big continuum and that several conditions can co-exist and also that one condition may morph into another: MC, bile acid malabsorption, IBS, SIBO, and so on. Examples: We know that up to 60% of those with LC can have bile acid malabsorption. We know that maybe up to a third of those with IBS-D have now been found to have SIBO. (The FDA has now approved rifaximin for the treatment of IBS-D). Also, unfortunately, we still don't have real cures. Yes, there are steps we can take for symptom relief, but no real cures. The good news is that lots of research is underway, especially with regard to the altered gut biome, which seems to be the bottom line in all of these gut-related conditions. The ultimate solution, I believe, will occur when we can evaluate a patient's gut biome and make recommendations as to a specific antibiotic, foods, and/or natural treatments/ supplements (including probiotics) that may be needed. This will have to be incredibly individualized because everyone is different (as we have preached since day 1 here).

Thanks again!

Love,

Polly

P.S. Alice, hi! And congrats on your move to AZ.
