Exercise (weight lifting) with MC

Post by Janie »

I was wondering what you do when you need to build muscles for osteoporosis, besides walking. Can you do it or does that deplete magnesium and then do you add more mag? I lost all my good arm muscles with MC.

Hi Janie,

I ended up hiring a personal trainer to train me on dumbell lifting and kettle bells. I have osteopenia. I'm lifting 3 days per week. I lost a lot of muscle from MC, menopause and laziness. Some people use weight vests.

I'm not sure of the magnesium implication.

You may want to consult with your PCP and/or Physical Therapist if your osteoporosis is severe and start out with a Physical Therapist. I'm having very good results with my personal trainer.

My bone thread my help you.

Thanks Brandy,
I will go back to weight lifting again. I have a personal trainer which is on hold until I get into a routine, since I am new to MC. Been so weak and tired but perking up now. I haven't been dealing with MC for very long.

Hi Janie,

I see you just found us in May. Listen to your body. The first two years after diagnosis I had to cut back some. I still lifted once a week after diagnosis with a trainer and walked but walked a lot less than pre MC. Pre MC I probably walked 12-15 miles per week. After MC diagnosis I cut back to about 5 miles per week. I needed a lot of rest. Now I'm in remission and I'm hitting fitness pretty hard.

Thanks Brandy,
I will take it slowly. I was in decent shape before MC.
