It did in my case. As far as I can tell, nothing treats anxiety and stress anywhere near as effectively as magnesium. It is the only antidepressant that is actually significantly more effective than a placebo. I highly recommend it as the most beneficial health and mood enhancer ever to be discovered.

That said, yes, it's possible to take too much magnesium, especially if you take the forms that are more easily absorbed. There is a limit on how much magnesium the body is capable of transporting into the cells where they can be utilized or stored, and any excess amount in the blood has to be eliminated by the kidneys because the blood level has to be maintained in a restricted (normal) range due to the fact that magnesium is a critical electrolyte that is involved with the regulation of heart function, breathing, blood pressure, body temperature and various other things. As long as the kidneys are functioning normally, everything is fine. But if kidney function becomes compromised, things can go downhill in a hurry. And taking more magnesium than your body is able to easily handle imposes an unnecessary load on the kidneys.

And on the other side of the chart, the more magnesium we take, the lower the percentage that we absorb. There is a point of diminishing returns. And any magnesium that remains in the intestines (unabsorbed) can contribute to diarrhea if too much accumulates there.

For my own purposes I consider a supplemental dose of approximately 1.5–2 times the RDA to be reasonable while trying to restore depleted magnesium reserves, and 1–1.5 times the RDA to be a good dose in the long term after a chronic magnesium deficiency has been resolved.

I hope that this is helpful.

You're very welcome,
Tex

Hi Beccasue,
It sounds like I am taking alot of magnesium, but I'm probably getting near my 700 mg quota a day with what I stated. With that said it's not too much while we are learning how to heal and also while healing it takes more to heal.

Relax a little bit, and let your intuition be your guide

You can do this, even if you want to start out with baby steps
