Traveling Snacks
Going to be traveling to Indian Rocks Beach, FL in a couple of weeks with my sister-in-law (wish me luck, good vibes, prayers, etc....). It takes about 11 hours to get there. May take 2 days to get there. Typically there is a microwave in the room we stay in before we get there. I'm not worried once I get to our beach house, but traveling is hard because I refuse to eat at restaurants so I typically starve.
Anyone have a snack they can point to? Low histamines please (if that's even possible) that seems to be my #1 and only problem right now. Thanks guys!

Martha, When I travel I take: Epic bison bars, unsweetened applesauce (you can buy it in squeeze pouches), Oskri coconut bars, organic baby food in squeeze pouches (sweet potato & pumpkin), Jackson Honest sweet potato chips made in coconut oil, salmon in a pouch (no ingredients other than salmon & salt), sliced pumpkin bread made with almond flour, almond milk in individual cartons, organic rice cakes. Relax, enjoy and I hope you have a wonderful time!

Thank you so marcia!! Good ideas! I'm going to try the salmon before I leave.
We will have 6 children with us. They will have a ball. So in hopes my husband and I can relax while our kids play with their cousins.

I travel with Lara bars, beef and bacon jerky, applesauce, and the cups of fruit that are in their own juice (like peaches and pears). I also make those Paleo muffins that are in the recipe section and take those along also.

Depending on room....I traveled recently (only 8 hours) I brought a small cooler and a dry box. Small cooler had my safe turkey and cashew milk in it. Dry box had Lara bar, plain safe chip, cinn chex and a travel bowl w/spoon, baby food pouches couple varieties, and anything else that didn't have to stay cold. That was plenty actually....I don't tend to eat alot while on the road, only during stops.

my travel /out for the day type staples are rice protein drink, and pre cooked cold meats - using a cooler bag and small ice bricks. small enough that they will refreeze overnight in the fridge of accommodation venue
If i know there is an option of heating food I will take my stew. frozen portion of stew is also a good way to keep other items cool in the cooler bag for the day.

Good luck with the salmon, Martha. I hope it doesn't give you any issues. I tried salmon in a can and it made my earlobe itch but I have no trouble with the pouch. I believe it was the preservative in the can that caused the issue. It is so handy to take along, I always had a pouch in my pocket when we went to Disney World. You never know when you'll need some protein.

Thank u so much guys!! Great ideas! I so hope I can handle the salmon. Histamines cause me a lot of trouble, itching all over and gas/bloating. Just deli meat does that for me so we shall see. I appreciate all of you guys!!

Martha, I was thinking about your trip and with traveling in a car you have many more options. Take a small cooler and fill it with whatever you can safely eat. I'll eat food cold as long as it's something I can tolerate. When we go to the beach I bake a bunch of sweet potatoes to take along. Steamed broccoli and roasted carrots travel well, too. I keep the paleo muffins in the freezer for times when I need to grab something to take with me. I have also been known to whip a cooked turkey breast cutlet out of my coat pocket. Whatever it takes! I hate the thought of you being hungry because you don't have something that you can eat.

Hi Martha,
I saw you are coming to Florida. I'm not sure where Indian Rocks is but I'm sure you will have fun! I just found out it is down in Pinellas County.

This is really good advice. It is really hot now in Florida. I've done a lot of business travel in Florida and have eaten a lot of cold food at the highway rest areas and in motel rooms on business trips. Cold food that you can tolerate is really refreshing this time of year.I'll eat food cold as long as it's something I can tolerate.
Have fun!
Sadly I eat everything from frozen, that's why I'm a little worried. I may just have to double up on the antihistamines! I so hope I can find some fresh, fresh seafood while I'm there.
Brandi, it's close to Tampa.
Marcia, I'm going to buy a nice cooler today!!
