D-mannose and UTI

Post by crervin »

I just wanted to let everyone know about how good D-mannose is. Last week after swimming at a very crowded public pool with my kids for a birthday party (which I will never go back 😀), I came down with the symptoms of a UTI. A couple of days later, I felt horrible.

I tested my urine with my at home strips and showed moderate leukocytes. I started taking d- mannose plus made a Dr app for the next day. The Dr called this week saying I had moderate amounts of E-coli. I told them I would call back if I started feeling bad again.

But after 2 days of D-mannose, I feel a lot better. Going to keep that in my medicine cabinet....

I agree. Have had UTIs on and off for 20 years. Nothing helped, but D-Mannose did.

I read on another forum that the writer's mother kept getting UTI's until she took D-Mannose powder every day. She hasn't had a UTI since. I keep a bottle on hand just in case.

Mom has later stage alzheimers. She was getting chronic UTIs and they made her brain worse. Aide wanted to put her on ongoing antibiotics. PCP of course refused. I've had her on daily D manoose for the last 5 months. No UTIs. Mom is having a great summer and spends a lot of time gardening.

No negatives to Mom (age 80) being on daily D manoose.

Mom's aids think I'm a genius.

Thank you Marcia and brandy! It really helps....going to give a little to my daughter. I think the frequent swimming is starting to irritate her as well. I can't imagine it would be harmful to her. Just going to lower the dose. I'd be on antibiotics all summer if it weren't for this. I've never had this in my lifetime.

Hey brandy have you noticed if it has healed them or just prevention? I thought I got rid of it, but now showing leukocytes again. Just wondering if I never really healed the first one?? Taking this D-mannose until my Dr opens on Tuesday. So hoping healing takes place before then!! My symptoms are still not as bad as the first one a couple of weeks ago......You guys have a great 4th!!!

Hi Martha,

In regards to your question I'm not really sure. My guess with my Mother is that the Dmanoose helps to prevent them. She has forgotten how to "wipe" in the correct direction and can no longer vocalize if she has a UTI.

Before I started her on the daily D manoose she would get antibiotics, get off of the antibiotics for a week or two and then have to go back on the antibiotics for UTI. i.e. she had ongoing UTI's that never really went away. I wonder too in my mother's case since she is celiac if the antibiotics are not as effective due to her villae being gone and absorption issues.

My integrative MD mentioned that the D manoose is shaped like a sea urchin and the D manoose harpoons the E coli and flushes it out of the system. In my mother's case I think it keeps the E coli counts below the diagnostic level of UTI. This is speculative.

Most people are not on a daily dose and don't need to be. I think in my mother's case where she cannot verbalize the symptoms it has helped. In dementia and alzheimers cases UTI's escalate into serious brain confusion (worse than normal.)

Using powder for Mom. She is celiac and I think powders dissolved in solution are better for those with compromised guts. I didn't price things out but usually powders are cheaper than pills.

Thank you so brandy for your response! I'll definitely stay on this throughout the summer. I have had only one issue in the past. So hope I don't get prone to these....

Hi Martha,

Re-read my above posts. I was editing and changed some stuff around.

In researching for Mom I found suggested: Cotton undies, showers better than baths and simple soaps (no fragrances etc)

I find that the yoga compression shorts seem to irritate things too.

For me personally I never had UTI until post menopausal. I take a dose before sex and after sex and that seems to prevent them.

Brandy, that is interesting about sex....... That may have sparked this reoccurance.

Man, I can't eat, can't swim, and can't have (anything😢). I'm woeful today Brandy, please forgive me, lol!!

Thank you!!
