I had a dental appointment today. I called the office last week to see if they have gluten free tooth polish because I was sick after my cleaning in December. They called yesterday to let me know that they had something that they could use. When I went today the hygienist told me that the box was marked gluten free. She wasn't sure about the polish that she had in her area so she made sure she took one from the gluten free box. They didn't order gluten free polish and were surprised to find that marked on the box. I was thrilled - such a victory for those of us who are gf! I told her that I was surprised that I was the first patient to request gf polish. She said if they didn't have gf polish she was going to use pumice on my teeth.

Mine has been using a GF polish for years now and it's a big relief not to have to worry about it. Isn't it nice to know you have an informed provider? :). Mine uses the thyroid shield routinely during xrays too.
I'm having problems now with extreme sensitivity. I've been told I brush too aggressively. The last cleaning I had was painful although my teeth have little scraping reuqired. My gums bled easily too which is unusual. It's always something......

Mine thinks that my slightly OCD approach to ingredients is overkill.
he struggles to accept that ingredients used for dental work (and ?spat out) could impact my gut.
After we had slightly tense discussion about fluoride and magnesium deficiencies, i have given up trying to explain my reasonings etc.
I cant afford to change dentists again so am just going with the flow.

Deb, It was a relief because I was prepared to switch dentists after 30+ years and I didn't want to have to do that. I live in a small town so I'm not sure that I would have much to choose from if I had to look for a different dentist. I feel for you, Gabes. It is frustrating when are more knowledgeable than the person providing your care!

I forgot the brand name of it but your dentist should know- it seems to have been around a while. I think it may be called Sparkle.

Such great information, thank you! Has anyone experienced a change in the appearance of their teeth since having MC? Deb, you mentioned your gums bled more easily, any thoughts on that?

not in appearance since having MC, more so it is a case that many MC'ers have serious dental issues due to the years of inflammation and deficiencies in key nutrients like Vit D etcHas anyone experienced a change in the appearance of their teeth since having MC?
the issues were already happening before MC is known.

Yes, this makes a lot of sense, Gabes, thank you!! Who knows how long the inflammation has been (or where it's been) in our bodies before our MC diagnosis? My teeth seem to be more translucent somehow in the past year since my diagnosis, with a bit more receding of the gums. Likely it's a result of exactly what you explained.

Definitely. I went years without needing any dental work and then it seemed like every time I went I needed to have something done. I have receding gums, too. My teeth never were very white but now they're not anywhere near white in spite of my best efforts.

Marcia, your description of your teeth physically and their changes sound exactly like mine!! Does anyone else have lovely bags/dark circles under their eyes? I've had mine for the past 8 months or so. Not sure if it's my thyroid issues, MC, malabsorption or what. It's like an edema in the face and especially under the eyes. At first I thought it was from the Budesonide, but I only took it 8 weeks, and have been off it almost 5 weeks now.

PS ... I just ordered the A1 and C1 EnteroLabs today. Will post results and likely ask for help to fully understand and get the most out of them.

That darned inflammation!! Thank you, Gabes. It's a little thing for sure, in the big scheme of things. Just weird to look in the mirror (when it can't be avoided, ha!) and realize that sometimes I "look" sick because of this ...

once you are on the 'right' eating plan that suits you, and inflammation reduces these symptoms fade away... it is not obvious day to day, but over the period of weeks and months you notice they have reduced /gone.
part of the motivation to stay on the 'safe' eating plan.

Thank you, Gabes!! I've sure been trying, and made a lot of improvement. I've been going off of my own responses to foods, plus using the Food Allergy blood panel done 8 months ago. Meanwhile, Tex's book and the Enterolabs are on order, and I know they will help me move forward and hone in much better on that eating plan. A huge thank you to the board members, all of whom have encouraged me to take this next step. I want to know the answers; I want to be more in harmony with my body and what is causing it to have all this inflammation.

Holly, I don't have dark circles under my eyes. They are puffy sometimes but that depends on how I slept and what I ate before I went to bed. I did notice that I seemed to have a lot more lines around my eyes but I don't notice them as much anymore. You can definitely see a difference as your gut heals.
