Lyme's treatment

Post by Dsnrbec »

I know there are some studies relating Lyme's and MC. I'm one of the unfortunate ones who have both. Since I had
Lymes several years before being diagnosed antibiotics would not be very effective. Instead I've chosen the Buhner protocol which involves several herbs. After being in MC remission for over a year, the herbal protocol has kicked things back into high gear. I'm disappointed and confused about where to go from here. I wanted to post this in case anyone has successfully treated Lyme's without worsening their colitis. 😔

I'm so sorry to hear that you have Lyme's. I live in CT and we're crawling with ticks. I hope you find a solution for both!

It's tough for MC patients to have to deal with Lyme's. It's hard to win because not only do the antibiotics typically used to treat the disease often trigger MC, but many herbs can also trigger a flare. I wish I knew of a solution, but as far as I am aware, these are pretty much uncharted waters.

Hopefully someone here who has had to treat the disease will have some helpful suggestions.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

from the reading/research I have done about Lyme / CIRS / Biotoxin type conditions success comes with similar approaches to what we do for MC

- low inflammation gut healing eating plan
- lifestyle changes (good sleep, good relaxation, healthy attitude etc)
- minimising exposure/contact with as many triggers as possible
- the right nutrients (Vit D3, magnesium and healthy methylation cycle for starters )

learn to listen to your body, figure out what works for you and stick with it. what works well for one may not work so well for another
there is no quick fix and time span for good success is 1-2 years.
quite a few people use cholestyramine to help remove pathogens which for some MC'ers has also help bring a good remission

I live in a heavily populated tick part of the country, too.....Pennsylvania.

My husband has suffer the effects of Lyme disease for years. He feels he turned a corner with his health when he started taking colloitial silver and proteolytic enzymes for the Lyme.

There is also a dr. we follow who has had experience with gut issues and Lyme disease. It may be worth checking him out.

Linda, I'm in PA as well and I'm afraid to go in the woods anymore because we are polluted with ticks. I love hiking and camping but knowing two people who have suffered so much with Lyme I avoid the woods except in the winter. Makes me sad!

Marcia,

It's so sad, isn't it! I love the woods, too, but I avoid them now except when there a couple of inches of snow, or in the summer I have a path I use.

I wear long pants with my socks pulled up on the outside of the pants and I spray a bug spray on myself made with essential oils before I go out....and it's been so hot to wear all those clothes to walk the dog....but it gives me some piece of mind....remember jumping in the leaves when you were young? That doesn't happen anymore....

Lyme is an epidemic. We need more research because there is so much misinformation out there about it.

It truly is an epidemic and more needs to be done about it. The son of a co-worker is no longer able to work because of it and he's only in his 40's. It's so sad.
