Thanks everyone. I'm sorry that it didn't go more smoothly. It seems that in the real world some things often don't work out as well as they are predicted or planned.

I decided to pay the "website transfer team" at the new host to transfer the website to make sure that it would be correctly installed on the new server before the old one was shut down. On Friday, when I checked out the link they gave me, everything seemed to work correctly. But after the switch was made to the new server and the change went around the Internet, the board couldn't be opened. I spent some time Saturday tracking down the problem, but it couldn't be resolved because the transfer crew went home for the weekend, and they locked the website so that no one else could correct their mistakes.

The reason why it seemed to be working fine on their server before I changed the name servers is because they only gave me a link to the home page at perskfarms.com. But they had placed the discussion forum in a different directory on the new server (on the old server it was in the root folder), consequently when I clicked on the link on the home page that points to this discussion board, the link sent my browser to the old server instead of the new one. So naturally it worked just fine.

But the main problem was that they forgot to import the data into the database tables after all the files were copied, so there was no way it could work. The database has to be populated in a separate operation, after everything else is in place. When I looked at the database on the new server, it was empty. :yikes: But because they left the website locked, I couldn't import the data into the server, nor could the other tech reps who were working over the weekend. Nothing happened this morning (Monday), either, so I emailed them a detailed description of exactly what needed to be done and they finally got around to doing it late this afternoon.

I suppose all's well that ends well, but it definitely could have gone a lot more smoothly. A move like this is not likely to ever need to be done again, but if it ever does happen, I believe I'll just do it myself next time. It's too frustrating waiting on someone else to correct their mistakes.

It is good to see everything working again, though. And as they say here in the South, "I missed all y'all".

Oh my goodness what a lot of work for you Tex. So sorry that you had to go through all that stress and worry. I am so grateful for your expertise and patience and that we have this website up and running and that all the valuable information has been preserved.

Thank you Tex

Tex,

I could not access the board for three days, and I was so worried about you having to go through a lot of work.

Now, I'm happy that the transfer worked out perfectly, at least that is how it seems from here.

A big hug to my hero, Tex

Hi Tex,

I'm sorry that this happened; it must have been very stressful. Thank you so much for doing this successfully and I'm very glad that everything looks the same. It should have been an awful experience for me if this forum should be disappeared!
So once again, thank you!
