My Hair Is Falling Out
Hi,
Is there any way I can stop my hair from falling out? My test result from March this year said B12 was 644 (ref area 170-650).
Here is the B12 I take: http://no.iherb.com/Jarrow-Formulas-Met ... zenges/117
Other supplements :
ReMag: 1 tsp
Selenium: 100 mcg
Zink: 25 mg
Methyl Folate: 400 mcg
Vitamin C: 2000 mg
I had to stop taking P-5-P because they made me feel so nauseos.
My digestion is good, no D.
Thanking you in advance,
Lilja

Hi, Lilja!
I've lost a lot of hair, too, and appreciate the emotional aspect involved! Other possible reasons include genetics, hormonal/thyroid imbalance, iron deficiency, medications and malabsorption. When I saw a dermatologist about my hair loss (prior to diagnosis of any auto-immune conditions), she told me the #1 reason women lose hair (if it is not from a hereditary, genetic condition) is low iron. You might have your iron (ferritin) levels checked next lab go-round. I take a slow-release "gentle" iron formula Vitanica Iron Extra daily (25 mg iron).
Something else that might be helpful is to take a little pure, organic virgin olive oil and massage it with your fingertips into your scalp, then leave it on for about 20 minutes before you shampoo. The massaging is good to stimulate the hair follicles in the scalp, and the olive oil supposedly has some natural antibiotic properties. Plus it helps to hydrate drying, fragile hair at the source.

I will definitely try both Gabes' and your advice. My S-Ferritin level in March was 83 ug/L (ref area 15-200), so I will start supplementing with iron and see if it helps. The olive oil treatment sounds great!

I have not had a hair cut for over 6 months, my hair is growing, is strong and healthy, and friends have even commented that it is looking 'less grey' these days (since fixing methylation cycle issues)
I think for me, it is the combo of having lots of home made bone broth (amino acids, minerals etc), the biotin, and I use a natural coconut based shampoo and conditioner.

Gabes, toss those luscious locks for those of us still working on that!!!!
Tex, thank you for your comment. I've been critically low in magnesium for ???? I know now that the topical magnesium oil is not working (or not enough, not alone) to turn this deficit around. So, it's Day 2 of Re-Mag, and I know things will only get better!!

Gabes, you are right. In my dreams, I don't have circles under my eyes down to the ground and my hair is long, full, and flying in the breeze! (Plus, no need of bathrooms, hehehe!) Patience, baby steps, some trial and error, learning ... gosh it's so good to have the board back up and running! I sure missed that connection to each of you during the down-time!

I would vote for the Biotin....it is B7 and it helps with brittle hair, and nails. Suave has a Biotin shampoo and conditioner very economical. I know that horses need Biotin I've rubbed it on their hooves to help keep them healthy I can remember doing that with a shea butter application, and I made sure they had it in their Equine feed.
I'm taking a daily 33 mg Biotin along with the p5p, and B12 sublingual. I've worked my way up to a hefty dose of VitD3 10,000mg (because I don't utilize it very well), Potassium 200-300 mg, B2, Zinc (every other day as it is 50mg), and my faithful Magnesium Drs Best 200-300 mg because I also use 1/2 tsp or Remag and I apply at least 200mg topically every morning.

Lila, I wish I could tell you what stopped my hair loss and gave me nice hair again but I'm not really sure. I started D3 and magnesium at the same time. My hair was dry, brittle and falling out and now it has a lovely wave again. I get it cut every five weeks but it is growing too fast. I hope you can figure out what you need.
