I think it's back....
After a bit trying to figure out what I was doing wrong trying to access this site again....
I was first diagnosed with LC 4 yrs ago in October. I did three months of steroids and after I finally managed to get off of them, I've been pretty good. Every time I've had a problem, I've been able to explain it by NSAIDS. I've since been through frozen shoulder, torn bicep tendon, surgery, and another frozen shoulder. Lots of meds. The last time I had taken NSAIDs was June...which I coupled with acid reducer which seemed to keep symptoms at bay. And it was either meds or no sleep. I've had periodic bouts through the years, but nothing more than a few days.
Two days ago, symptoms started again. This time I'm having massive pain which has not happened since my major ordeal. Today I am couch bound. I'm praying this will be gone soon, but I'm afraid it is going to be a long ordeal.
When do you revisit with your GI? She had told me to let her know if I had more problems. I've never been to a place where I thought I might have to give her a call.
But I am pale, nauseated, having lots of pain, and the other usual things.
My life has been crazy stressful and has calmed a little, but I still have kids to deal with....thankfully teens.
Any advice?

hi there
what is your eating plan like?
Do you take Vit D3 and magnesium?
I ask these questions as the right eating plan and having healthy levels of Vit D3 and magnesium are the foundations of minimising symptoms in the long term.
A visit to the GI may involve repeat colonscopy and additional prescriptions
in the first instance it might be worth a routine check up with your PCP/Doctor, get your Vit D levels checked, B12 levels checked
hope this helps

Hi Blue,
I can't recall whether you have made any diet changes, but if not, you will probably need to get a prescription for budesonide to resolve that flare. Stress is a primary trigger for LC/CC/MC symptoms, and once a flare gets going, if it becomes severe enough it can be self-perpetuating by virtue of the additional stress that it generates.
There's a possibility that you might have a C. diff infection. Your doc could rule that out with stool testing.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
I have Hashi's and I know my D is crap. I was taking it well until June because I'm stupid at taking meds and my husband would schedule for me. I just forget all the time because I take it with calcium. I've never been able to handle straight magnesium. I'm not sure how to go about trying that again.
I hardly eat any dairy because my son is anaphylactic to milk. Also not many nuts or eggs. Although I bake with eggs. My son was gluten free for many years and I've never found that to make a difference for me. I do think too much dairy bothers me. Because of my son's food allergies, I make most of our food so we eat little processed foods.

at this stage, the reaction your digestion is having is due to too much inflammation, you may not think that being gluten free etc made much difference, but based on your current symptoms, you may want to reconsider making changes to your eating plan
Magnesium wise - there are loads of options that do not impact your gut. topical options, (oils/lotions), epsom salt soaks, good quality oral forms that are easily absorbed. (there are loads of recent discussions about this)
there is more to low inflammation eating than just eliminating Gluten, Dairy, Nuts etc. it is best to avoid processed foods, make sure you are having good serves of protein, etc.
again there are lots of discussions about this if you willing to embrace eating plan changes.

you would need to have 4-6 epsom salt baths a day to start to get enough magnesium via that method
the recommended daily requirement for magnesium is about 400mg elemental magnesium per day
some people with health issues etc need about 600mg elemental magnesium per day
if you are deficient in magnesium you will need at least 600mg elemental magnesium per day for a couple of months to correct the deficiency etc.
the same for Vit D3, if you are deficient it will take a couple of months of higher doses to correct the deficiency.
Vit D3 is essential to manage inflammation levels etc

Hi Bluemommy,
Just checking in to see how you're doing. Did you decide to go back to your GI doctor? If so, what did they say? Have you made any diet or supplement changes, and if so, have they helped? Wishing you all the best!
