Hemorrhoids
Just curious if there's a remedy for an internal bleeding hemorrhoid. I'm trying to avoid the dr about it. A couple of weeks ago it bothered me only for one day, but now it's reared its ugly head. I'm stopping the probiotic I was on to see if that helps. It seems to cause more frequent bathroom visits. I've been using preparation h suppositories between bleeding.
Thanks
Thanks

Martha,
I agree that the cause is almost surely something in your diet, and it might be the probiotic. About 15 or 20 years ago I developed a bleeding problem that showed up every other day whenever I had a BM. I couldn't figure out why it happened every other day, like clockwork. One day it dawned on me that the only thing I was doing differently on alternate days was switching brands of popcorn. I had C issues almost all my life, so roughly 25 or 30 years ago I had developed a habit of eating a big bag of microwaved popcorn every night to help maintain regularity (as they say).
But Orville Redenbacher had introduced a product that I believe was called "Movie Theater Popcorn, and I alternated every other night between that and regular microwave popcorn. The reason why I alternated was because the Movie Theater Popcorn was so strongly flavored that I considered it "too rich" to eat every night. It contained a pouch of seasonings that had a list of ingredients half as long as my arm, and the flavor was so strong that I only used half the contents to flavor the popcorn. It's a good thing that I only used half, or I might have bled to death. LOL. Anyway, as soon as I stopped eating that potent concoction, my hemorrhoid issue faded away. If I ate the Orville Redenbacher hemorrhoid antagonist, the next morning I would have blood in my stool. As long as I avoided it, I was fine.
Before I developed the popcorn habit, I had a bleeding 'roid problem that finally sent me to see a GI doc (I assumed that I probably had cancer). He did a sigmoidoscopy and diagnosed the problem as hemorrhoids. He prescribed a couple of weeks worth of suppositories (I believe they were called Annusol or something similar) and they resolved the problem. And after that I started eating a lot of popcorn to try to minimize the C problem. This was a few years before my MC symptoms began.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Thank you Tex, this originated a couple of weeks ago when I had the "normal" bms for about 2 weeks. My body didn't know how to handle actually trying to push it actually resolved in a day, but I didn't go as frequently as I am now. I was kind of constipated for those weeks, but it was great.
It has to be that probiotic now. Once I get it resolved, the next day, I'm staying in the bathroom. Oh the agony. I'm sitting on a doughnut. My Gi dr points them out every colonoscopy. The joys of childbirth and taking morphine during a horrible car accident.
Maybe I should eat some chocolate....
Popcorn can definitely help in the constipation dept, lol.

i have had roids a few times in my MC journey. (some were banded during colonscopy)
what i found works best is coconut oil.
TMI - gross alert
basically i poke coconut oil up my bum, a) it protects the sensitive area when you are passing motions b) it helps things heal
make sure you have a good size liner for the rear part of your underwear so there is no leakage onto clothes
if you dont like coconut oil that much, there are capsules
I buy 'body coconut oil' product from iHerb that I use for body (and i had a separate container in bathroom that is gabes bum coconut oil only)
and then I have the low flavour, low scent good stuff for cooking in the kitchen

the other aspect, is to have some extra coconut oil during the day orally, this will also help the motion pass without aggrevating the roids.Coconut oil contains lauric acid, which kills harmful pathogens like bacteria, viruses and fungi. Breast milk is the only other natural source that contains such a high concentration of lauric acid, which could explain the drastic decrease of infections in breast-fed babies.

Thank you so gabes!! They have never been this uncomfortable in my life. I was so enjoying those "normal" bms. But I don't want this. I would rather use the coconut oil. Thank you!!

i started out trying to explain it delicately.. and then figured plain and straight to the point 'stick coconut oil up your bum' was best way, so decided to prefix it with a gross alert
with so many new people here, I thought I should put a pre warning... (it was something you may not want to read if you were eating at the time!!)
agreed... ..I laughed at the "gross alert." We're the potty people, it takes a lot to gross us out!

I shall keep the coconut oil remedy in mind, just in case. I have learned to wait until it is absolutely necessary to have a bm, that way I'm not straining and creating an additional problem. I've also learned to to elevate my heels, so that my toes only touch the floor. Some people use a step stool but that is too much elevation for me. Somehow that little adjustment seems to help.

marcia, you are right....Sadly nothing grosses me out anymore either. I just love everyone on here. It is so nice to be able to talk about the most private (horrible and gross) situations and to not feel so alone in them.
Its getting a little better everyday. I'm trying to ignore it now, lol. I was overstressing a bit and of course that was not helping.

Haha, Gabes- I love it! I knew it would be good advice after I saw the warning. I don't ever experience C but have on going issues with hemorrhoids. Since starting LDN, they haven't been quite so bothersome but still there in a smaller state.
I love coconut oil and straight to the point conversations.
My son was just now dx with chrohns to go along with his UC, AIH, and PSC. There is nothing out of bounds or embarrassing between us. For a 21 year old young man, I give him credit for being so open about his issues. I get texts of the toilet bowl and requests for my opinion. The first time I saw all the blood in the toilet (UC) I think I was more shaken than he was.

Deb,
I'm very sorry to read that your son has been diagnosed with yet another challenge to deal with. I hope it doesn't cause any major problems on top of everything else.
I can remember when you told us that the PSC made him very susceptible to developing an IBD, but it never occurred to me that he might end up with two. You've raised a very tough son, for him to be able to deal with so much at such a young age.
Kudos to both of you.

Thanks Tex,
That was disappointing but at least for now it is not changing his course of treatment. He takes Lialda, Aziathioprine, and prednisone for the UC. We are again working on his taper which they said will be even trickier since he has active inflammation and sores. He has been on it for over a year so it would be good to get him off. Doing ok with it so far after a week so we will see how it goes. It will be a very slow one. He is one of the healthiest sick kids I know. I am thankful he is able to pull off college and a job. I have my fingers crossed his senior year and internship goes by without a hitch. His GI said he is always hesitant to move too fast with someone his age because he doesn't want to create any additional issues that could cause him to miss classes. As much as I like moving along at a fast clip, I totally agree. I was thinking about asking about putting him on LDN to see if it could help but I don't think they would be too receptive since they already told me it makes no difference in GI issues. It's a lesson learned...... It really doesn't matter what I want..... Our bodies will establish their own timeline so we mightvas well roll with it. He is quite the amazing young man. I believe his attitude has helped his rather "crappy" situation tenfold.
