is arrowhead mills puffed rice cereal gluten free?

Post by harma »

Hi everybody,

does anyone know if the Arrowhead Mills puffed rice cereal is glutenfree, I found it today at the carrefour and would be perfect carry with my food on the plane trip to Holland monday.

Ingredients only lists: puffed whole grain brown rice.

So I would say, it's glutenfree, but I am confused by the word "whole grain" and also it has no gluten free logo on it. I tried their website but does not make me any wiser.

Since this is an american brand I hope somebody here knows

Harma,Since they don't mark it GF, that looks suspicious, especially since they do list several other breakfast cereals as GF. That probably means that they should be GF, but they can't be sure about their supplier/s for the puffed rice cereal:

Maybe you can find some of those items, but be sure to check the labels for other problem ingredients. I'm pretty sure that I ate some of the GF Rice Flakes, a few years ago, and they were OK for me.

I've always avoided Arrowhead's Puffed Rice for this very reason. As Tex wrote, they clearly label their other cereals as being GF, so why not Puffed Rice?

I recall reading on another website that someone contacted Arrowhead Mills to inquire about the difference, and she was given the runaround.

Darn! I have a bag in my pantry but haven't tried it. I just emailed the company and will let you know what I find out. Thanks for asking about it - would have been another careless eating mistake for me!

Love the quote!

I can't answer your question about Arrowhead Mills puffed rice, although I'm guessing that the gluten content would be minimal.

But I love the quotation you posted, having just completed a course in mindfulness. Do you know who said it ... was it YOU?

Oh ...

... is it by the physicist John Wheeler? Cuz that's what I came up with by googling the end of the quotation. I'd tried googling the beginning of it before I wrote to you, and got nothing. Or is it some other John Wheeler? Or some other universe? :-D
