Lela,

it happened to me. In fact, I thought I needed to add roughage to my diet but I think it was my body adjusting to the new meds. I.m maintaining a strict diet, supplementing with VD, mag, and VBs so that when it's time to taper, my body will be ready.

Years ago when I was first on this med, I used it as a false sense of security and ate all sorts of foods that normally would cause me grief. Not a good idea! This time I'm using it as an opportunity to have a break and heal. I still have some days where I don't poop, but it happens eventually. It's kind of a mental shock because I was so used to spending my day in the bathroom and now it's changed. I've learned to wait until it's really necessary to go; I have a hemorrhoid that I don't need to rear its ugly head!

Lela,

That sometimes happens because a few people are very sensitive to budesonide (that is, it's extremely effective for them). For most people it takes from a few days to a couple of weeks to become effective.

Be careful that your quick success doesn't turn into a major constipation problem. A few members here are so sensitive to budesonide that they cannot take more than a single 3 mg capsule per day without suffering from constipation. Be ready to quickly reduce your dose if that happens.

As long as your BMs are normal though, you're fine with the regular dose. Use constipation as a cue that it's time to step down your dose to the next level.

Thanks for posting an update.

@dhouts thx for the info. Just until recently I could eat pretty much anything in reason with asacol, but I noticed gradually, no big salads, then no salads. Need cooked to death veggi s and not a lot. I don't like spicy foods, and can't drink lots of caffeine bc gives me jitters. So my diet ends up fairly bland. But not gluten free. What type diet are you on??

Majority of the people here follow a gluten free eating plan (98%) further to that, a fair amount of people follow Dairy Free, Soy Free, eating plan, and quite a few avoid eggs.

down the track when there has been healing, some people can have small amounts of dairy / soy / baked eggs.

Lela,

Pretty much what Gabes said. I'm gluten free, dairy free, alcohol free, and soy free. I don't eat eggs, even the smell of them cooking makes me gag. I switched to almond milk and I really like it. Very well cooked veggies only and currently I've limited myself to: carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, and asparagus. I eat dry baked (white) potato although sometimes I will add applesauce to the potato. I also eat sweet potato. I've cut way back on fruit. Usually a banana (not fully ripe because I'll gag) with GF cereal and my boyfriend cooks a blend of fruit that is so delicious and I haven't had any problems with it. For protein, I eat chicken, salmon, and pork. Jasmine rice is also a food that I don't have problems with. We've cooked it with coconut milk (from the can) and this week we added currants along with the coconut milk which was delicious.

I have the kit from Entero lab and have yet to get that done. As soon as I do, I will tweak my diet according to the results.
