Allegra Question
I purchased the Allegra 24 hour and I was reading the Drug Facts on the back of the box. It says: "Do not take at the same time as aluminum or magnesium antacids".
Just curious, would this interfere with the Re-Mag or Doctor's Best magnesium? It being a 24 hour med, I just wasn't sure.
Thanks,
Terre

Hi Terre,
That warning is associated with the possibility of compromised absorption of the fexofenadine in Allegra — it's not a health risk. Aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide can interfere with the absorption of fexofenadine, so it's necessary to take Allegra at least two hours before taking either one of those compounds in order to prevent the interaction.
If I recall correctly, ReMag is made from magnesium hydroxide, so there is a chance that it could interfere with the absorption of fexofenadine unless the Allegra is taken two or more hours before taking any ReMag each day. Magnesium glycinate should have no significant effect on Allegra. I take them together regularly.
Thanks for bringing that to our attention.

Brandy,
I agree with Terre — as far as I'm aware, there are no known interactions between Pepto-Bismol and either Allegra or fexofenadine.
Terre,
Ordinarily I would say there shouldn't be any risk of an interaction. However, I have no idea what the ionization process actually does in this case. The odds are very high that it won't matter, but you might keep this in mind if the Allegra seems to lose effectiveness at times. I really doubt that there will be any effect, since the ReMag is derived from magnesium chloride.
