Sure, carrots should be fine. Cooked apples should be OK as long as you don't eat too much (because of the fiber). Be sure you don't eat the peel because peelings are loaded with fiber. Cooked or canned pears are usually OK, also. And almost everyone can tolerate squash.

The advantage in eating meat is that a significant amount of protein is required to heal the gut, and meat is the only food that contains all of the essential amino acids needed for health. Humans can eat meat alone and be very healthy as long as the meat contains enough fat. Protein and fat are essential for human health, but carbs are definitely not essential for health and we can do just fine without them, despite claims to the contrary by carb addicts.

How about duck eggs? Can you bring yourself to eat them? They're an excellent source of protein and most people who are sensitive to chicken eggs can tolerate duck eggs. You can find them at Farmer's Markets and in some supermarkets.

Pumpkin bread might be OK. The problem with bread and other baked goods is that they tend to require more than a few ingredients and many of us react to one or more of the ingredients, or we react to the combination of ingredients, in some cases.

I agree with what Tex has written above, small amounts of things like pumpkin bread are ok, but what we have learnt from the journeys of many before you, protein namely animal protein is very important to healing. Having good serves of protein every meal is important

we have all been where you are now, seems like there is nothing we can eat, we react to most things, and it is overwhelming.. we just want to get well.
it has big impact on our lives.. albeit, to get well we need animal protein.. aside from the test results there is the mental and emotional aspects of 'life with MC' the eating plan and supplements will have limited scope of success if we dont do the mental and emotional aspects, grieve what was, get into the right frame of mind to embrace what is..
MC is for life, we cant banish it or escape it. We have to learn how to nurture it and enjoy life with it.

Have you read the posts in the Guidelines to recovery area? we have a section that has suggestions for the mental and emotional aspects.
Have you read some of the posts in the success stories area to see what others have done,

Your results are very similar to mine..........I also had the 1+ on lots of foods that I utlimately was able to eat.................it's just trial and error...........listen to your body...........it's a very much a life changing diagnosis, but it is very doable! Keep reading everything on here and asking questions. Hang in there!

Thanks so much everyone. I have tried to read as much on this website as I can, including the guidelines but I'll go over it again and see if anything can help now that I've gotten those results back.
I just had a question about the turkey that has been suggested. Tex, I know you said that a lot of turkeys has added rosemary extract, and I definitely saw that when I was looking at Walmart. I didn't end up buying any turkey because I couldn't seem to find one that didn't have a bunch of other ingredients already added. Where do you all shop for yours and what brands do you usually get? This might help me if I can keep an eye out for something I know one of you has already bought. Thanks again! :grin:

Well, I have been buying Honeysuckle Frozen turkey breasts (but I just noticed on the website that they have rosemary in them), but I don't have any problem with it..................

Also, Boar's Head deli turkey is gluten free and I didn't look to see if it had rosemary in it or not, but it's very good.

Rachael and Jari,

Rosemary is not a problem for most of us. It's only when the rosemary is listed as "Rosemary Extract" that soy is involved. The pure herb itself (rosemary) should be safe.

Unfortunately I don't have any suggestions on brands though, because I rarely eat turkey. 99.99 % of the meat I eat is pork.

The Honeysuckle says rosemary extract...........and I've been eating it, so maybe small doses of soy aren't bothering me much anymore............

I haven't actually fixed a turkey breast for about 6 months or so, but I ate it pretty regularly last winter with no issues.

Soy doesn't seem to cause me any GI symptoms, but peanuts do, and I produce antibodies to soy, so I avoid it.

I buy my Cornish hens and Turkey breast at food city or aldis. The ground turkey has rosemary extract, I don't recall the breast saying that. Maybe I didn't see it though, going to look closer next time...

Hey everyone,
I've been having a really hard time these past few days. I've been trying to eat things that have been suggested and I had a horrible stomach attack with excruciating pain yesterday...I couldn't leave the bathroom for four hours, dripping in sweat and a fast heartbeat, it got so bad at one point my boyfriend had to come in to hold my head because I felt like I couldn't even hold myself up.
I re-tried the jasmine rice and bananas...both a definite no. I went to the store today and I didn't realize there are so many types of squash, so I got just regular yellow squash and spaghetti squash...in hopes those are safe. I also got carrots I'm going to boil. I tried looking for a turkey that didn't have anything already on it...and I found a Boars head one at Publix, but it was $72?!?!? :eek: :shock:
The guy tried to cut me part of it to sell me a pound, but I couldn't take it because it was already cooked and said clearly on the bag "cooked on shared equipment" this was the third store I've been to just today trying to find turkey and I literally ran out to my car and broke down in a crying fit/panic attack. I just can't find one and I'm so hungry I haven't eaten anything today. Oh and the applesauce is a no go too :(

sorry to hear that you had such a rough day....

albeit - to confirm rice and banana's have been causing you issues is a good thing.

meat wise / protein wise hang in there, you will find source and safe proteins.. what Town do you live? I will do some internet searching to try and find better sources for you. The other option is that you can order specific safe meats online and get them delivered, it may sound expensive, but in the scheme of reducing stress, and getting safe proteins it will be worth the outlay (and wont be as expensive as $72 option)

the reaction to banana's, applesauce etc makes me think that sugar is a big issue for you so based on the other post about Dates, I would definately avoid them at this stage.

Can you eat lamb? Or cabrito (goat)? Virtually no one here reacts to lamb and it is less likely to contain any additives. Is venison available in your city? No one reacts to venison.

If you can find elk, it tastes very similar to beef, but no one reacts to it. Do you know any elk hunters? They might be willing to part with a few packages of elk meat. Bow season is open for elk in many western states, or will be soon.
