Pancake / Waffle Syrup

Post by terre »

Just curious, is there a brand that we can tolerate? I used to love Log Cabin original....it states "no high fructose corn syrup". The other ingredients are:
Corn Syrup, Water, Sugar. Contains 2% or less of: salt, natural and artificial flavor, sodium, hexametaphosphate, preservatives (sodium benzoate, sorbic acid), carmel color, phosphoric acid.

I think I remember that carmel color is not good. Is there a brand that anyone can recommend. I would only be eating a small amount.

Thanks,
Terre

I would go with 100% pure Maple Syrup. A bit pricey but worth it if you are using small amounts. Brands vary depending on where you live and who offers it.

I agree — pure maple syrup is much safer and more nutritious. Even when I was still reacting I could tolerate maple syrup in large servings without any problems. That was back when I couldn't tolerate corn (and corn syrup). These days though, I find that every year I can tolerate less sugar of any kind. Maple syrup doesn't actually derail my digestion, but I don't seem to be able to digest it as well as I could a few years ago. Still, that's not as bad as other forms of sugar because they cause me to have D.

Both Trader Joes and Costco have pretty good prices on maple syrup. That's all I use anymore too.

And I don't happen to like syrup so I lather mine up with either almond or cashew butter or that Simply Fruit jam (it has very low sugar and other ingredients and I do really well with it!)

Hi I'm new here and was just diagnosed with collagenous colitis and celiac 😩 I had my first attack end of June and it took 2.5 months for docs to diagnosis me. My trigger was Aleve that I had taken for only two days before the attack happen. I'm trying to treat this with kaopectate and diet change. I was body building for a nov show when I had to stop bcz I was just too sick from trying to keep up with all the food. When will the bloating and gas stop? I have the D under control for past two weeks but the bloating and gassy feeling won't go away.

Hi Lori,

Welcome to the group. I think most missed your question because it was posted under a topic about maple syrup. You may want to start a new post with title bloating and gas......

I'm still bloated off and on, worse at night time, and until I got my magnesium stores up, I had very bad and painful gas.

Key points

Do lots of reading here, there is a book you can order in upper right hand corner that has everything spelled out.
Keep on low inflammation diet plan
Vit D3 and magnesium are very important and vit B12 in some cases.

Ask us anything, there is a whole lot of info here to peruse.

Hello Lakky,

Welcome to our Internet family. To add to what Vanessa posted, the answer to your question:
Lakky wrote:When will the bloating and gas stop? I have the D under control for past two weeks but the bloating and gassy feeling won't go away.
Depends on what you are eating (including all supplements, medications, etc., but it sounds as though you are definitely on the right track. Fiber and carbs are the usual causes of bloating and gas when MC is active (because we are unable to digest carbs properly so they are fermented by bacteria in the colon, and fiber irritates inflamed intestines). The number 1 cause of gas and bloating is gluten (even tiny trace amounts are sufficient to cause those problems).

Again, welcome aboard and please feel free to ask anything.

100% maple syrup  plus I've noticed that I eat less and less of pancakes and syrup than I did a year ago....the sugar craving thing just starts to fade off after a while, I suppose that would be a good thing
