Bacon and Sausage

Post by babsmith »

i wanted to jot a note to jari...but wasn't sure if e-mail was inappropriate since i'm new to this forum. when you mentioned jimmy dean's all natural sausage is that in links, patties or just in a chub that you make into patties? also is it labeled "all natural" or just the original? i was at the market but wanted to clarify before purchasing...there are a lot of pork sausages for breakfast! also, re: bacon...most say "cured with blah, blah, blah and sugar" - is that OK? are there any perimeters in choosing bacon.

i'm slowly trying to get out of stage one eating (today is a good day so far) and will try pork chops tonight with applesauce. really want to add some protein for breakfast and will try to factor back in eggs in a few days - probably before i attempt sausage/bacon...so any and all responses can be at your convenience. i appreciate the information.

for everyone else who mentioned maple syrup...i did get 100% pure maple syrup but what do you put it on?

Hi there.............

This is what it looks like: http://www.jimmydean.com/products/fresh ... rk-sausage

You make it into patties. I can get it at my King Sooper's (Kroger), but we buy it in a 3 pound roll at Costco. It doesn't have any MSG in it. The other Jimmy Dean sausages do. I've tried to stay away from any additives and chemicals added.

I get the 3 pound roll at Costco for about $8. I use my electric knife and cut it right in the package on the lines and fry it up all at once and it lasts me just a little less than 2 weeks at a time. I freeze it in packages of 3 patties. I eat 3 patties every morning.

I've found that I can eat most bacon but this is the natural uncured one that I ate for quite awhile before trying others: http://www.makethenaturalchoice.com/Pro ... oice-Bacon

I also buy my bacon at Costco. We like it the best.

Hope that helps.

Gee, thanks! i'm stoked to factor in these extra proteins...i've been struggling in an attempt to get away from my traditional breakfast of blueberries, gf toast (with seeds) and fried egg whites (with fresh veggies, etc golden in). now, i'll just replace that with other interesting flavors - i haven't had bacon or sausage for literally years. now, i need to adjust my thinking and habits. thank you for the advice. i'll be at costco tomorrow with bells on! (not indulging in the samples, though).

oh, btw, at costco, i did get the "plainville farms" oven roasted organic sliced turkey breast (organic turkey breast, water, sea salt) which is not only delicious but all vegetarian diet fed, no added growth hormones, free range, gluten and casein free...for me, on a rice cake - it's heaven (well, that's an exaggeration, but yummy).

thanks again...

do you microwave the bacon or pan fry it the traditional way? i used to get oscar meyer turkey bacon at costco and microwave it but, now, i would need to revisit those ingredients. like i said, its been a long time since i've had red meat or pork of any kind...

I ate that turkey for awhile (the one from Costco), but I got so tired of it and haven't bought it in a long while.................

We microwave the bacon and pan fry the sausage.

My newest love is the cans of plain chicken (with only water and salt), drain it, shred it completely, and add about 2 tablespoons of dill pickle relish. It's just like eating chicken salad. My chiropractor told me to not eat anything out of a can and I don't do it often, but I use it up right away and always check expirations.

great suggestion on the chicken in water...i have had it but we typically have leftover chicken so i use the dark meat when we roast a whole one. adding the dill pickle relish is great - guess the sweet relish has too much sugar. is vinegar ok for you? i was wondering about that as a little flavor boost but, since i'm still on a strict elimination regime, i'm waiting and trying only one item at a time. today, like i said, is a good day so i hope i'm rounding the corner to recovery. you have many more challenges than i and i really respect your discipline and stamina - i hope to have relatively few sensitivities but, like you, i'm still experimenting and discovering. i may have to add casein to my list since i'm doing better today after eliminating my beloved 'coffee mate' creamer...could have been a culprit. damn!!!

thanks again, jari...

Barbara,

Just a FYI . . . the egg white (albumen) is the source of the allergen that most people who react to eggs have to avoid. For most people, the yolks are OK.

And yes, coffee creamers have caused problems for many members here. I finally settled on 2 or 3 sugar cubes, but some members here use nut milks (almond, coconut, cashew) and a few may use rice milk in their coffee.
