Colestipol, a life saver?

Post by kmc2016 »

So I have been on budesonide and limotil for about 4 months with continued diarrhea (1-5 BM per day) prior to that I was on just budesonide for about 4 months, and maybe its too early to get excited, but I'm on day 3 of my 1 tab a day colestipol and I haven't had a bowel movement in a day and a half. Maybe it is too early to get excited but usually I would have had about 4-7 bowel movements by now. I guess time will tell. I might cry happy tears if when I do have a bowel movement it is normal consistency. Because I haven't had anything but liquid diarrhea for about the past 10 months.

so pleased that the colestipol has made such a quick improvement for you!

getting rid of D is a worthy of celebration - yes.... albeit having C issues can be worse.
if in the next 12 hours you dont have a motion, i suggest you halve the dosage of the colestipol. dont stop it completely or the D may return, but reducing the dose may bring the 'happy medium' of what your body needs.

happy pooping and happy healing...

In addition to what Gabes posted, if bile acid malabsorption turns out to be the reason for your persistent D, then you may need to reduce your budesonide dosage (in order to prevent constipation issues) because colestipol is a much less expensive and less risky treatment than budesonide, and budesonide does not treat bile acid malabsorption. IOW in the long run, you may not need any budesonide because you may be able to control your D by regulating your colestipol dosage (without any budesonide or lomotil).

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
