Lou Ann,
Most doctors apparently don't understand the powerful effect magnesium can have on insulin resistance and diabetes. IMO it's very possible that the primary cause of type 2 diabetes may be magnesium deficiency. As long as you avoid a chronic magnesium deficiency and don't overdo carbs in your diet, you should be able to avoid diabetes.
If you haven't read the chapter about diabetes in my book on Pancreatic Cancer, I highly recommend reading it because it contains some vital information about the relationship between magnesium and diabetes.

Vanessa,
I'm beginning to think you have the right I did not have any doctors… Everyone I go to says something different and it makes my head literally spin around! Are you saying calcium supplements are not needed at all?
Tex,
I for sure thought an endocrinologist would have more knowledge about things… Why I thought that I don't know LOL ...wishful thinking maybe....but I was wrong. I mentioned the special magnesium test... she had no clue what I was talking about and when I asked her about my tongue told me to talk to my dentist. I seriously might go Vanessa's route and stay out of every office for a while, it's literally driving me crazy! I am probably giving myself a weird lump be feeling in my throat because I'm stressed about everything!
I will definitely check out your book! Thank you!

Hey Lou Ann,
Do you drink almond, cashew, or coconut milk? Broccoli and bone broth provide calcium as well. If you are eating these foods I don't think calcium supplements are necessary. You want a 1:1 ratio of calcium to Magnesium.
Staying away from all Dr.s is not a healthy way to think and is something I struggle with. And mind you, I work in a busy hospital. You just have to use them for what they're good for which is mostly diagnostics and be prepared to study things yourself and be your own advocate. Not easy when you feel poopy.

Lou Ann,
I walked into a lab in my area and ordered a RBC magnesium myself for 50 bucks. You can Google one in your area.

Vanessa,
I don't drink any kind of milk, but have a pretty well balanced diet.
I spoke too soon about not seeing any doctors… I will be adding a couple more actually or should I say unfortunately… I found a lump in my left breast on Sunday morning that is very painful to touch. They think it's just an abscess and I hope they are right! But more test and more doctors in my immediate future. Yuck O!!!! I can't seem to get a break lately but oh well, this too shall pass.
Thank you so much Tex! I appreciate your download of your book!

Sorry for all of your troubles...... It is frustrating when new issues pop up.
I have issues with my tongue too that's been on-going for years and no one seems concerned but me. What's yours like?

Hi Deb,
It's always nice to know I'm not the only one out there with the tongue issues.
I've had it for at least 7 years now....everyday.....just drives me nuts !!!!
It's the feeling of burning your tongue on hot soup.....mine seems not so bad in the morning and then just gets hotter and hotter thru the day. Rating it on a 1-10 scale, I would say it's never under a 5 by days end and quite frequently a 9/10.....I've asked at least 7 doctors of all types and they look at me like I have 5 heads.....I gave up.
What is yours like?
I'm sorry you have it, but it's good to know I'm not the only one...

Hmmmmm. I have that problem also, but I just assumed that because it shows up later in the day, it's associated with the cigars I smoke. I recently changed brands, but that didn't resolve the problem. I may have to take another look at what's happening.
I'm assuming that neither of you are smoking cigars.

Naw, I'm not going through menopause, either. And I don't have GERD.
Here's a link to an article that says it's due to magnesium deficiency. Note the comment that such patients will have a normal serum magnesium level but low RBC magnesium level (which seems correct). They even mention the medical name for the condition — glossopyrosis. Or oropyrosis if the entire mouth burns.

The main reason why I question their claim that this is due to magnesium deficiency is the fact that my other magnesium deficiency symptoms were always at their worst during the wee hours of the morning (when my body would run out of magnesium), but I don't recall having a problem with a burning or numb tongue. But maybe my other symptoms were so overwhelming that I simply failed to notice any tongue symptoms.

Vanessa,
I wish. Thanks, but that photo was taken probably 8 or 10 years ago. I used it because it was the most recent cigar-related photo I have.

Mine is a bit different- it's constant and doesn't burn or feel hot- it just hurts. It's scalloped around the edges and possibly inflamed. It's been that way for so long I don't remember what it feels love is to be normal. The taste buds will sometimes get red and inflamed on occasion. The doctors say to contact my dentist and my dentist says it's due to my overbite and that my tongue is rubbing on my teeth. It may contribute but I'm not convinced since I've always had the overbite and it started the same time all my other issues started rearing up. I am vigilant with taking my magnesium and have wondered if it is thyroid related or possibly related to my low ferritin levels. I come across bits and pieces in articles that attribute it to different issues. Maybe someday I will figure it out.
And nope, never smoked cigars or anything for that matter, haha.
