My Enterolab results

Post by Vanessa »

Hey Guys,

Since I'm computer illiterate I'm just summing up the results of my more extensive Enterolab test I took recently. Now that I make the normal amount of anti bodies for the test I wanted to see where I was at after 3 years of diet changes. Plus I'm in an unpleasant flare which also sparked the go ahead to spend the big bucks.....let's just say I bought a new vehicle and have A LOT of towels in case of an accident.

Fecal Anti-gliadin IgA 12 units

Fecal Anti-casein IgA 5 units

Fecal Anti-ovalbumin IgA 6 units

Fecal Anti-soy IgA 5 units

Mean value 11 Antigenic foods 3 units

Heres the real kicker....I showed No significant immunological reactivity to ANY of the foods tested. Corn, Oat, Rice, Beef, Chicken, Pork, Tuna, Almond, Walnut, Cashew, White Potato.

This is fabulous news because I eat a lot of almonds, rice, peas, potato and all of those meats rotated. I've also been really clean about make up (always wondering if soy was still in there) and other products. So these results are 3 years of hard work.......but now where do I look? My poop has always been soft since diagnosis and now I'm back to pooping my pants and wondering what today will bring.

I wonder if that 12 units of Anti-gliadin is where my concern should be. I really have no idea where I could be getting gluten...but I think this result can be normal after 3 years even. Supplements, environmental, stress (I don't feel that stressed, especially now  ), sugar, hormonal, hmmm....... Sorry for the book, I hope my friends here have some insight!

Just to make sure that we're on the same page here, you are saying that your doctor checked your Immunoglobulin A level and ruled out selective IgA deficiency. Am I interpreting that correctly?

If that's the case, then yes, your results all look "good". If your anti-gliadin level was high before you started the diet, then it would certainly be possible for you to show a test result of 12 after 3 years on the diet. IMO if your diet was cross-contaminated with gluten, your test result would have been significantly higher than 12.

I would be suspicious of the magnesium and/or the other products sold by Dr. Dean except that you had these symptoms before you started the ReMag and the other products. Or am I wrong? Did your symptoms become worse as you added those products?

If those products are not contributing to the symptoms, then that leaves bile acid malabsorption as a prime suspect.

Remember, that's not a diagnosis — it's just an indication based on the result of some of my random thoughts.

Do you mind if I add your results to the list?

Thank you Tex,

You may add the results to the list. I was surprised in May of this year that my SIgA level was smack dab in the middle of normal. We tested fecal SIgA.

I was having these problems before I started the products but this past couple months, it seems to have gotten worse, I played around with mag dosage and heart palps and insomnia always start in again, bowels stay the same.

I was thinking it was time to try a trial of cholestyramine but haven't had the "guts". I'm afraid it will steal my precious minerals. I bought some diatomaceous earth, maybe I'll try that very slowly. I'll have to mull it over now that these results are back. What a relief to know your on the right track with the diet.....

Thank you for your thoughts on this. They are definitely in line with mine!

If it is any consolation Vanessa....I'm starting to think I need to apply as much External Mag as I can, remembering to do it along with some minor internal Mag....I'm thinking the cholestyramine might be stealing a bit more than I had anticipated -three months already, (but I am not going to stop taking it because I am doing so much better on it) ....which boils down to applying Mag morning mostly, so now I am seeing and feeling mag levels a bit lowered due to a bit more crying spurts over basically nothing at all and this is what is touting me to start getting some more Mag in the afternoon and not ignore that fact anymore.

This balancing act is hard at times! In the same breath I'm trying to find things that help me feel that joyful kid happiness once again - its been an empty nest at my place for a couple years now and I'm finding it hard to find things that truly get my interest going at the moment. What do other 'mom' empty nesters do?

I feel like I'm rambling today....must need to get more magnesium in me before I turn into a Loon!

Erica,

I'm so glad your feeling better on the poop front. I may have to PM you once I start looking into cholesryramine. I have some questions about it. It's funny because I've never felt so good and so sick at the same time? Hmmm talk about contrast. You'll have to start rockin out more now that you've got some time on your hands (I absolutely love your kiss T shirt). And in my family, the kids always come back for a second time :pigtail:

Sure, visit anytime.....when I plateaued I felt in the same boat...felt good and bad at the same time...it was the binder that did the trick for me...even if I'm not sure how long I need to be on it, perhaps once I have had enough good BM days and I 'bind' up more than not that will be my tell tale sign I can back off the dose until I get to a comfortable binding maintenance dose.

So far it really is doing the trick albeit needing to up the Mag, which I'm sure once I get that accomplished I will be on a much better happiness path also. Ironically I want to start experiencing things I didn't get a chance to while pinching and scrimping raising kids....so yes more experiences is what I'm hoping to do moving forward, it is just finding the ones that I can afford, LOL. Rural areas can only accommodate so much in the experiences dept....without saving up and venturing farther away.

Hugs
Erica

Hi Erica,
Glad things are going better for you. As far as suggestions of things to do, I have found volunteering to be my saving grace. I currently volunteer at a therapeutic horseback riding place 2x a week and am loving spending time with both horses and needy children. I am around others with similar interests, have made new friends, and feeling needed and wanted is such a wonderful thing!

Vanessa, I stopped my nightly tbs of cashew butter that I thought was my safe food. Come to find out my morning BMs improved significantly. Is there something you eat everyday?

Erica, ditto with Cathy. I'm only a 5 hour a day emptynester now, but I've volunteered tutoring at school. It really makes me focus on someone/something else besides me and my family. I think my husband's idea of me needing a job is a good one, I just can't figure out how to taxi my children back and forth with one....

Hey Martha,

I eat almonds everyday and feel I couldn't live without them, (muffins, Milk). Back to the guessing game. I could be reacting to one of the gums in the milk and about a thousand other things environmental. I'm not creating any immunological response to almonds. Maybe the lab was off that day. LOL. The weirdness for me and always has been is not everyday is bad. It goes in a cycle correlating with my hormones. I just can't pin point it. I'm relying on my diary for now and white witchcraft to point me in the right direction. I think maybe the cholestyramine would help for toxic overload rather than actual bile acid D.

Has anyone else had pretty good labs with a lot of symptoms?
