Repairing the Villi?! How?

Post by nsaidcolitis »

What does it take to fully repair the villi?

I checked an endoscopy i had in 2014 and it reads "blunted villi" (ruling out celiac). I am not celiac well MC wise I am I guess but I believe my blunted villi was caused by h pylori because a year before 2013 my endoscopy was no h pylori no blunted villi, a year later severe h pylori infection duodenitis blunted villi metasplasia. I removed the bug, took an endoscopy in 2016 no metasplasia it looked normal (dont know if you need biopsy of duodenum to check blunted villi but the report said normal duodenum, moderate gastritis, cheap endoscopy too ;( ) but I got reinfected with h pylori in the hospital so I was H pylori positive.

Unfortunately my intolerances have become worse, I know I can't digest lactose, maltose (which for some reason is in bananas as well unless they are underripe like all grains and vegs which are not cooked to death) . Maltose I tolerate in small amounts anything more i get reflux indigestion. Sucrose is fine too I can eat tons of sugar and still have a flat tummy and no undigestion. I tried a small piece of cheese today to check if I also completely lost the enzymes of lactose (I get instant reflux and stomach pains all over when I eat something i can't digest as well as belching bloating....instantly) and I had a reaction as well.

So I lost lactose, maltose. I think I have high tolerance for sucrose and fructose probably OK. The only way I can eat starch (when cooked it has lots of maltose) is to combine with high fat food like coconut oil or tons of avocado or nut butter etc...that way the little enzymes i have can digest the whole meal and I get 0 reflux, 0 pains 0 indigestion, etc.

But I eliminated H pylori, got my MC under control, still battling gastritis I dont know if thats the culprit why I can't recover the enzymes. I'm taking vitamin D hopefully that helps.

My reflux has gotten much better thanks to Gabes advice but nowhere near back to normal. I see the only way I could be back to normal in terms of reflux is getting back my enzymes at least partially or avoiding carbs for life entirely.

Is there anything else we should be taking to repair the damage? I'm eating lots of meats (too much maybe) or maybe it can't be repaired anymore.

Main items
- time
- home made bone broth (i make lots of soups and stews with safe proteins etc)
- healthy cells (Vit D, Magnesium, Zinc, Vit C)
- stick to bland, low amount of ingredients eating plan for at least 3 months. dont try inflammatory or known trigger food ingredients

if you were severely magnesium deficient, it will take at least 8 weeks of good magnesium supplementation to start to resolve the deficiency, and can take 16 -24 weeks for some people.

the other aspect is healthy teeth and gums. if you have any temporary fillings or older root canals this could be feeding bad bugs to your gut everytime you eat and drink.
I didnt have much success healing leaky gut (villi) until I resolved dental issues. (over 18 month period i had 4 molers removed)

thats interesting gabes i started to have teeth problems when i got rid of h pylori and my teeth have deteriorated ever since. When I eat maltose which I cant digest, my teeth itches and I keep getting cavities too. That could be it maybe its a new type of bug not letting the villi repair. I mean I'd like to see progress, can't believe i can't cooked carrots  I could 6 months ago now i can't (too much maltose for me). Interestingly enough I may have seen some improvement when I started brushing with coconut oil and doing coconut oil pulling that day I saw a little improvement  . Im not supplemeting with Vit C , is there any form which is best for us? I eat avocados and tons of broccoli, I know that has a lot of vit C but that may not be enough.

good options for teeth gum issues

brush gums/teeth with zinc liquid (available from iHerb) before eating
this is quicker and easier than doing oil pulling, and provide same if not better benefits

Dental issues is common amongst MC'ers, years of inflammation and nutritional imbalances has big impact.

dont want to dishearten you - more so give you realistic information.
due to my combo of health issues, I have not been able to expand my eating plan that much. I am coming up to 7 years post diagnosis.
There are a small number of us that have to stick to low number of ingredients and constantly tweak things to handle what is going on.

dig around the weston A price website articles - there are some fabbo articles about fixing dental issues
