Decreasing Budesonide

Post by dhouts »

What is the protocol for decreasing Budesonide. I left a message for my doctor but they don't always respond in a timely manner. The end of October, my doctor was faxed a renewal for my prescription and I haven't heard a thing. Good thing I had my own stash. I've gone from 3 tabs to two with success and I'm wondering how long I should remain on 2 tabs before going down to one tab.

Thanks...I'm pretty sure I saw something on this site regarding that but I looked and couldn't find it.

The timing for the reduction can be individual, depending on various factors, diet, healing level, Vit D level, lifestyle and stress levels etc etc

If you are ok on 2 tablets, i would wait a week or two and then go to 1.5 tablets per day or 1 tablet per day and see how you go.
if at that reduction WD / softer stools / urgency returns, then go to 2 tablets one day, 1 tablet the next, then 2 tablets the next day, 1 tablet the next.

hope this helps.

My doctor's office just returned my call and his nurse was extremely interested in Entero Lab. I suggested that it would be useful for other patients and she agreed. Yay! She is going to relay my message to the dr and I should be hearing from him soon. Hopeful that he will also be interested in Entero Labs.

Diana,

Many members here who have weaned off budesonide have found it helpful to go on with the taper past one capsule per day, to one every other day, one every third day, and some even take it farther. Most spend from one to three weeks at each stage, depending on how their body seems to be responding.

That's great that your nurse is interested in EnteroLab. It will be interesting to see how your doctor responds, because most doctors are very reluctant to endorse a lab that allows patients to order tests directly. They consider ordering tests to be their turf and they don't like to be cut out of the loop. Of course the reason they get cut out of the loop is because most of them shoot themselves in the foot by refusing to order these tests for patients.

Exactly, Tex. It will be interesting to hear his response and I hope that will be later today. I am also interested in his response to weaning off of budesonide. Regardless, what you and Gabes wrote made the most sense and ultimately I have to do what's right for me.

Thanks so much. I'm copying your instructions to my desk top
