GMO Corn - nothing surprising

Post by Gabes-Apg »

nothing surprising in this story

any wonder such a large part of the population have digestion issues / leaky gut

“Serious Damage to Surface Mucous Membranes”

Published in the international journal Experimental and Toxicologic Pathology, the 90-day feeding study on rats found that those given GM Bt corn MON810 suffered “serious damage to the surface mucous membranes of the jejunum (a part of the small intestine),” among other ill effects on the digestive system as noted in this article from the website GMWatch.org.

The corn given was a version of Ajeeb, a variety that is local to Egypt, by researchers Marwa A.A. Ibrahim, MD, and Ebtsam F. Okasha. The rats ate a diet containing 30% of MON810.

In those that consumed the GM feed, some areas of the villi were “distorted and flattened,” with some cells joined together, the report said. Villi are tiny appendages in the intestines that absorb nutrients from food.

Mucus glands were also reportedly disrupted and blood vessels congested, while signs of inflammation were also observed in these areas, and cells in the intestine reportedly became abnormal.

And I love corn too....

It's hard to find a good safe variety even for personal planting at home!

Hi everyone,

I reintroduced corn pasta into my diet about a year ago. I only eat non-gmo corn pasta and recently, non-gmo corn tortillas and chips. So far, so good. I don't think I tolerate gmo corn. All of the corn products I buy are imported because I can trust that they are non-gmo.

In addition, I've added olives, broccoli and cauliflower to my diet without problems. My mid-afternoon snack is sliced olives on 4 corn chips. It's the first time I've been able to eat vegetables in a couple of years. I also have gained 10 lbs. and now weigh 95 lbs.

I am also very slowly reducing my Entocort dosage by reducing to 1/2 pill every few days. The other days I still take one pill. It's progress, albeit slow. I'm cautiously optimistic.

It's been 10 years since my last colonoscopy. My GI is pressuring me to have another one done. I'm reluctant because I don't want to rock the boat.

Thanks for the update Gloria!

I think about you all the time since I make your muffins weekly. They are a wonderful change from having meat for breakfast. I brought them to a breakfast meeting at work and no one knew they were free of anything. Are you doing the cholestyramine? I can't remember.....

Hi Vanessa!

I'm glad you are enjoying the muffins. I hoped that you would tolerate them.

Yes, I did try both Cholesteramine and Welchol late last year and early this year for about a week each. I had problems with both. The Cholesteramine packets have dyes and artificial sweeteners and they apparently bothered me, so I tried the Welchol a month or so later after my gut settled down. It didn't help, either, and my symptoms worsened, so I stopped it. My GI was surprised because he thought one or the other would be beneficial. He said I must be extremely sensitive, and I am. I still get slight mouth sores, skin rashes, and itchy bumps on my scalp occasionally, and I eat nothing high in histamines and still take 2 antihistamines daily.

I am at peace with my limited diet and situation, however. There are worse things to deal with than eating a limited diet. My neighbor has MS and has been in and out of the hospital all year and falls when she walks. She is a widow and can no longer drive because of the MS. My life is pretty good compared to hers.

Gloria,

Yes! I have been feeling very grateful for my situation as well. Not to get all New Agey but I believe this was our wake up call. We needed to go through this for some reason, whether it be to lead healthier lives, listen more to our body, whatever the reason. I've been giving thanks!

Hi Gloria,

It's nice to see an update from you, and it's especially encouraging to see that you've been able to gain a significant amount of weight and add a few more foods into your diet.

I agree with you about the risks of a colonoscopy for MC patients. As I'm sure you're aware, some cleanout solutions have been shown to actually cause MC in patients who did not previously have the disease. Unless you have a family history of colon cancer, as long as you maintain your vitamin D level in a good range (about 45 ng/mL or better), colon cancer should not be a significant risk.

http://www.grassrootshealth.net/media/d ... 032310.pdf

And if you are concerned about the risk of colon cancer, but would prefer an alternative testing method, there's a blood test available (approved by the FDA in April, 2016) that appears to offer reasonable accuracy.

I've noticed that now that we are between pollen seasons (and now that I've switched to fresh pork sausage instead of smoked sausage), my histamine symptoms are way down (no more rashes, bumps, weals, etc.) if I happen to get a little too much histamine in my diet. I still take an Allegra each day, but I may experiment with trying to phase that out in the near future.

And like you, I'm happy with my limited diet. As long as I feel great, there's no reason for me to feel deprived. I look around, and many of the people who feel sorry for me because I can't eat what they're eating, have various health issues, most of which are probably due to their diet. I feel sorry for them, because I've been there myself. They're suffering from arthritis, hypertension, diabetes, etc., and other AI diseases are probably in their future.

I checked my BP this morning and it was 110/61, heart rate 70. That's not bad for an old codger like me, considering that the only BP medication I take is magnesium.

I too agree with Vanessa — I think we're on to something, and the only regrets I have are that I didn't catch on much sooner.

Gloria, I hope that you continue to improve, gain weight, and that you'll be able to add more foods back into your diet in the future.

Gloria,

Does your Entocort come in pill form or capsule? Mine is capsule and I want to test a half capsule but not sure how to. Thanks

My Entocort cones in a capsule. I twist the capsule apart and count the number of "beads" and divide them between the original capsule and an empty capsule (Now brand, purchased online). I punched holes in a square piece of card stock to hold the empty capsules while I divide the contents. The card stock sits on a margarine cap so the capsules stand upright.

Tex,

Yes, I'm steadily improving and am satisfied with my progress. My vitamin D level was in the 80's last month. I might consider the colonoscopy if the GI believed in histamine issues and would check my level, but he doesn't believe there's any relationship between Histamines and all of my issues. Cancer doesn't run in my family, so I think I can do without the test.

Gloria, can you post the link for your muffins or the recipe? Or anyone else that uses it. I use one Tex gave me but would like to change it up. I know there is a site for paleo muffins but so many pages that they start to run together.
Also what kind of tortilla chips do you eat?
Thank you from a newbie who is slowly adding things back in her diet now that the flare is over.
