Been Awhile, Parasite!!!

Post by Pat »

Hi all,

Is been quite awhile since I've been on here and felt I should update. I never really felt like I belonged here even though I had 3 colonoscopies with biopsies and of course MC was the DX each time. I just didn't respond to meds or diet like others. Soooooo long story short after finally being on the most ridiculous meds, Remicade and Octreotide injections 3x day and still not doing well I had to take matters in my own hands and found a functional medicine dr in Massachusetts (I live in Texas) and he did a wholllllle lot of tests and found a parasite. Dientamoeba Fragilis. He prescribed Paromomycin which I took and I am soooooo much better. Just before the DX my GI doctor and I decided to stop the Remicade (cause it wasn't working) and to go back on Entocort. I was also taking 4 Imodium a day. Now I am off the Imodium and off the Octreotide injections! Woohoo! That was a pain in the butt! (pun intended). The dr in Mass has a dietician I have also been working with (she's wonderful and understands completely) She has helped me add in more foods. Of course until I am off the Entocort I won't really know. But for the first time at least Entocort helps me without also taking the shots and Imodium!!!! He is going to repeat my stool test to make sure the parasite is gone. He is also treating me for other things: Vit D deficiency(I was taking Vit D3), Rosacea, Adrenal fatigue, and some others. C.Diff toxin B also showed up on the stool test and for right now I am taking some probiotics (which I didn't do well with before treating the parasite) but he said if it still shows up again on my repeat test he will probably recommend a fecal transplant. So we will see. The doctor I am seeing or rather talking to now is Dr. Todd LePine at The Ultrawellness Center in Lenox, Massachusetts. It was expensive and my insurance didn't cover it but I had no other choice. Stay sick or at least try to find someone to truly help me. In case you are wondering I have been gf, df, sf, ef, and just about everything else free for over 4 years. A very limited diet!

Hi Pat,

It's good to see that you are finally doing much better. I hope that this is the final key to the puzzle.

Good luck with the treatment, and please keep us updated.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Heck of a note that a parasite has been an interruption to your healing process!

Very good to hear you came upon this discovery
