Hi All,

This poll addresses your experiences with, or feelings about, sugar in your current diet.

Sugar seems to bring on lower GI cramping for me. It's always associated with the holidays and their accompanying pies, treats, etc.

I have, as far as I know, no problem with sugar and I don't avoid it in my diet. Although I am very well aware that sugar is not healthy and can cause many other health problems in the long term, besides an upset colon. Becoming fat is one of them of course, but also other health problems according to the Paleo Diet book of Loren Cordain. It is so much more a real health risk than fat.

Heck, I wouldn't go about saying "definitely." I would say TOTALLY! Oh my goodness does it ever. If I happen to eat one donut, my stomach goes hay-wire and I'm sitting on the toilet for hours crouched in pain. Initially, it was thought to be a a gluten allergy, but studies have said otherwise. The lack of sugar and artificial sweeteners for that matter has been driving me a little mad. I used to be gaga for cakes and cookies. Now I'm limited to small, small bites.

Of course, it DOES make my mind focus on stuff that isn't food. I suppose that keeps me from gaining a tremendous amount of weight. ;)

Hi Jane,

Welcome to the board. I was pretty much like you when I was recovering. I had to totally avoid many foods, and I also had to minimize sugar in my diet, to keep from getting sick. The only type of sugar that I could tolerate in any significant amount, was maple sugar.

Again, welcome aboard, and please feel free to ask anything.

All sugar is EVIL, IMHO. I feel it's 'toxic' to the body in many ways and totally unnecessary anyway.

I can tolerate some but not alot and spaced apart time wise...too much leads to gas and in the early stages of healing this was not a good thing! I am more tolerant of it now, but it will still create gas if I ingest too much. I agree it isn't good for us no matter how I look at it...I tend to like more salty foods than sugar foods but that doesn't mean I wont occasionally have some sugared item.

I have been using coconut sugar for months and seem to tolerate it just fine. It helps satisfy those urges that come around time and again.
