Small Meals

Post by Hazelbird »

I've found in my short time of dealing with LC that large amounts of food at one sitting causes discomfort, ie cramps, bloating, pain. Has anyone else experienced this?

I eat small meals or snacks every 2-3 hours. This routine seems to keep my gut calmer and my energy up.

You're very perceptive. Yes, during recovery most of us seem to do much better if we eat smaller meals or snacks, more often, compared with eating 2 or 3 larger meals.

Here's a link to one of many posts that mention this tactic:

Yes to small meals. I also find drinking water before breakfast really helps.

I concur, yes to small light meals. It seems my tummy feels better when it doesn't have to work so hard. I've also increased the protein.

Yes, because we tend to be short on certain digestive enzymes (especially for carbs) while our small intestine is inflamed. Additional chewing (and eating slowly) helps to stimulate the production of certain enzymes.

Small meals has always suited me even before the MC was diagnosed.

I also have slightly bigger meal servings at breakfast and lunch -

the other thing that has worked for me is no more than 5-6 items in the meal.
3 veges and 2 proteins (i have been adding avocado to most meals to increase my good cholesterol that was very low) is my normal meal.
