Blood work question
I went to the dr for my wellness visit the other day. He did normal bloodwork, in addition to d3, b6, and b12 panels.
I had low globulin and low WBC, I assume due to the autoimmune disease. This is my first low globulin level though. I also had a low ALK PHOS, 40 U/L (45-117 U/L range). Does anyone know anything about this?
Also my b6 was 17.5 ng/mL (4-40 range), 531 PG/ML for b12 (193-986 range), and 38 ng/mL d3. My d3 went down 8 units after stopping the oral and starting on the cream. I'm going to start using the cream morning and night as opposed to just mornings. I just got the multi-vitamin patches in the mail. I am very hopeful that they work. I really could use some extra vitamins right now. Going to order the complex b vitamins soon.
Thank you guys!

Hi Martha,
Your decreased ALP could be due to a zinc deficiency. However it could also be caused by malnutrition or protein deficiency. I'm going to lean toward malnutrition or protein deficiency because globulin is calculated by subtracting albumin from total protein (total protein - albumin). Was your total protein low? If so, that's an indication of malabsorption, which of course is common with IBDs. If your A/G ratio was normal, that supports this interpretation.
But remember, I'm not a doctor.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
My total protein was 6.6 g/dL (range is 6-8.5). My A/G ratio was 1.8 (range 0.7- 1.9). I was curious about zinc. Guess I should test for zinc. Sadly, specific vitamin testing isn't something he will do when I ask for it. It has to be his idea. I wanted my b6 checked awhile back and he wouldn't
After checking last year's blood work, my b12 is up 115 points, yay. My WBC is closer to normal too. Good news.
Thank you Tex!

Martha,
Looking at those results, and reassessing, it's possible that you might have a zinc deficiency because one of the symptoms of zinc deficiency is leaky gut, and of course that tends to cause malabsorption problems.
Stress is a primary cause of zinc deficiency, and you've had plenty of that.
