Humbled

Post by Hazelbird »

Or maybe just 'busted'!!! :???:

My body, my gut, my energy, EVERYTHING has felt sooo normal lately that silly me thought I had this LC beat. I started adding too many new foods, eating more each meal, not doing enough emotional self-care, and allowing too much stress in too many days in a row.

RESULT = discomfort, frequency, urgency, mucous, sleep disturbance. SURPRISE, SURPRISE.

So I am humbled once again. This condition is certainly a life lesson to listen to my body and care for it every single minute of every single day. It's what takes me through this amazing life, and I should be grateful enough to look after it in any way it needs.

So........back onto the wagon, walking the straight and narrow, one day at a time.

Don't be too hard on yourself. Virtually every one of us goes through that phase at one time or another. The disease is always there, looking for an opportunity to remind us that it's always there, looking for an opportunity to remind us that . . . etc.

That's its not-so-subtle way of reminding us that the dividing line between safe, nutritious food and toxic waste is not always easy to see.

I hope you'll be feeling much better sooner than you expect.

Thanks, Tex. This is lesson #1 for me in walking the LC path, and hopefully I'm a quick learner.

Yep, Dr. Einstein's quote describes us perfectly as we try to find our new limits with this disease.

I failed to admit that my lifelong emotional release has always been FOOD. Eating when happy or sad, up or down, bored or excited. (How I stayed slim and fit is a mystery!)

So now with LC, I obviously can't use food anymore. This is stressful after 66 years and stress is a trigger for my LC! What a vicious circle. I have soooo much to learn.........

agree, dont be too hard on yourself, there are lots of 'learnings' in MC World.

and for many, the first part of the healing journey is 2 steps forward, 1 step back dance ( or sort of like the time warp)

the hard part of this journey is being patient - we get enthused by joining this site, meeting others who 'get it', and then as the symptoms fade away we get ambitious.

hang in there...

Thanks so much for the support, Tex and Gabes.

'Ambitious' is a tactfully appropriate word. As I stayed near the bathroom today and considered this flare, I realized that I may still be a teensy bit in denial.........

Today I ordered a burger wrapped in lettuce. I specified no dairy or gluten a few times but the burger came out wrapped in lettuce but with cheese. I didn't want to send it back so I just scraped off the cheese thinking I would be fine. BIG mistake!

So, I am sitting here tonight humbled once again by this disease and I can add another restaurant to my "do not eat at ever again" list. I guess in a way it was good since I was contemplating doing a major "cheat" for the holidays. Nope...not going down that path--at least until the next time I am humbled. :( Einstein was totally correct.

Tory,

The main problem might have been the lettuce. True, if the cheese touched the burger, it was contaminated with casein, but virtually none of us can tolerate iceberg lettuce while we are recovering. Something about the fiber in iceberg lettuce causes our guts to go ballistic. So between the lettuce and the cheese, you were in a double whammy situation.

A lot of burgers are not gluten free. You have to verify burger is 100% beef with no fillers. Wheat is a cheap filler. Also if restaurant makes pizzas and also serves burgers it should be avoided due to pizza dust flying around.

I've never had a problem with Outback and Red Robin.

I've eaten iceburg lettuce many times without issue. I really think it was the cheese contamination since I haven't had dairy in weeks. Or it could have just been a perfect storm of sloppy handling. Regardless, I'm back to being much more careful.
I also started and then stopped after 5 days some gabepantin for my awful body pains. I got the nasty side effects of all over itching and breasts the size of bowling balls after just 3 days of minimum dose. I swear if there is a side effect. I will get it so maybe the new med was an issue as well. This disease sucks.

Tory
there are digestive enzymes available for gluten and dairy that help the body digest these food items

some people use these when they are eating out to help minimise symptoms of any possible contamination.
