OK...lots has happened today....my GI was on vacation, but another doc said it was OK for me to go back to 3 Entocort per week. Also had the meeting with our Dir. of Dev. and I have a job this spring if I want it and IF my boss will let me do it along with my full teaching load. If I take the job I will be the Interim Alum Coordinator and Event Manager. It is kind of scary because it involves planning the big Alum Weekend in May and it is also the same weekend as our big Arts festival that I am partially in charge of. Yikes....so...would be planning the alum luncheon, huge cocktail party, alum chapel, and working with all the class re-union coordinators...it is my 35th re-union year by the way...hahaha...as you may recall, I am an alum of this place as well as a teacher there. So, if I can earn this $ and teach this summer, it may help me survive my cut next year. I will be exhausted, but financially OK. Will still try to line-up some adjunct work too.
On another note, it is supposed to be around 15 degrees tonight...an arctic blast is moving in....have not had temps this low in years....wish some snow would come in with it...maybe next week????? Nite all....JJ

Jill, here's hoping that you are good at delegating! You must be good at this kind of thing to already have two lined up before this opportunity came along. Do you actually enjoy special projects? Can you use your artistic abilities to design the decorations, etc.?

I wish you the best, and it sure looks as though your school is going to do everything they can to help, and that they have lots and lots of confidence in you to assign you such a large event.

Yours, Luce

Hi...well...what a roller coaster...I talked to my sister tonight...she is a college administrator.... she said not to get my hopes up. She said that if she were my boss, she wouldn't let me take on the part-time job at the same time as my full time teaching job. Sigh...then I started to wonder if I should even try to do both jobs at once. Now I feel more confused than ever. So, I called my good friend from work, and she told me she thought I should try to do both because the part-time job would boost my self-confidence. I am soooo confused! I am so emotionally drained....when will this end????? Grrrrrrrr....Next week, I am going to make an appt to talk to the Assist Head of School...he's in charge of personel, and has known me for the 20 yrs that I have worked at the school. He will have a better idea of the whole picture and will know if there is any chance of me getting a job in either the lower or middle schools.....thanks for letting me rant! No wonder my stomach is feeling crummy! Nite nite...JJ

Jill, Here's just another OPINION, but I think if you want to do that job then go after it. Don't analyze it to death, or let others make you uncertain of what you want to do. If the school won't let you do it, that's one thing - you can accept that - but don't just "not try" because someone else thinks it might be too much for you.

Hi Luce...I enjoy organizing and planning...not sure how much I would get to use my artistic talents.....I have been to the big events associated with this possible job, but don't know how many choices are made by the Alum Coordinator, or by the Alumnae Board. Maybe some are joint decisions. I am going in to meet with the gal who is leaving today...will know more. TTFN...JJ

Jill,

Here's my two cents having lost a job four years ago due to funding cutbacks and having to look for work anew after twenty years.

At the time, it was very traumatic for me, but it ended up being the best thing that ever happened to me. I was able to establish a new career and lifestyle that is much more rewarding for me and much less stressful. It's only natural to scramble for another job in response to a cut, but have you been able to spend some quality time thinking about what it is you really want in terms of another job or a second job? I know how easy it was for me to fall into fear and anxiety, but I fought hard to stay in tune with my gut and not trap myself in another high stress situation. Of course, your situation may be entirely different, but this might still be food for thought.

Secondly, I myself would not opt to put myself in a situation that would be so exhausting when I am healing an autoimmune illness like MC. Is it really worth it to get the extra money now, if it depletes my body and potentially affects my health, is the question I would be asking. If an opportunity like this came up now, there will probably be more in the future especially if you seek them out. You sound more than competent!

For me, it's really easy to let anxiety run my life and I have to be diligent in stepping back and giving myself time to tune into my gut to see what is really the best direction for me. When I follow my gut, it's always worked much better for me...even though it meant a leap of faith.

Good luck with all this!
Celia

Hi...grrrr...I just wrote a long response and lost it.

Celia...thanks so much for your input...I had not factored-in my health issue...yikes! What you said makes great sense and also, my sis mentioned last night that I should be spending my time looking for a part-time college job, not killing myself with this temporary position,.... which would be added on to my already full work load.

Later, I'm going into school to talk to the gal who is leaving, and will find out more about her job....it may be that it is just toooo much to add on to my job this spring. Thanks again for your comments...they really, really helped...TTFN....JJ

Hi Jill

Hi Jill:

I hope you can work things out to the best of your advantage. Here's my opinion, for what it's worth:

My main concern is your health and would hate to see you overload yourself and get all stressed. That's no fun. Just take a deep breath and maybe try not to think about it over the weekend if you can. Just try to relax and do something to take your mind off everything for 48 hrs. It will help you refresh yourself and be able to think more clearly.

Our weather was cold last night too. I spent some time on the patio yesterday covering my budding plant containers from the cold and wind. The weather was so warm everything has started to sprout so I got John to bring in some cardboard boxes to cover everything and weighted them down so they wouldn't fly away. They seem to have weathered last night and hopefully this cold snap will be gone soon. I saw on the long range forecast some snowflakes may be coming down next week. Hey - that's not fair, I thought Spring was upon us early. The crocuses are out and daffodils ready to open. I hope this doesn't do damage to them.
It happens to us quite often in the Northwest - getting fooled by warm weather and then we get a blast of cold to remind us that it's still Winter. Oh well, we still live in a pretty moderate climate and I'm thankful for that.

Anyway, take care, my friend and try not to worry too much.
I'm confident that everything will fall into place as it should for you.

Love - Momster :flowersmiley:

Lucy,

Great idea about talking to the gal that was doing that extra job before you even consider adding the stress. I was a bit concerned about that part of it, particularly since you are still having symptoms.

Ya know what? I was just thinking that if you could swing it financially, if you had the decreased work load for a while, could you maybe find a way during that time to make yourself indispensible at the school? The extra time might give you an opportunity to look around at things you might really feel in tune with.

Just wanted to give another option. Looks as though Celia had the same experience as you, and at the 20 yr mark as well. Neat how that works sometimes!

Yours, Luce

Hi...yup, icy here too and windy...power went out in many areas, but not here....the wind chill out there is beyond zoweee! Lights flickered a little bit.

OK...here is the scoop! I went to school and met with the gal who is leaving. She knew nothing about my conversation with the Dir of Dev. In fact, he announced in the staff meeting this morning that the job I had been interested in had been given to someone else!!!!! No mention of me at all! She walked down to his office with me and of course he denied that he had said that in the staff meeting! What a %$@#$#% jerk! He said he was still interviewing and was waiting to see my schedule...yesterday, he said HE WOULD talk to my boss, and today he said I was supposed to do it! OK.....he asked if I had talked about the job description with the gal who was leaving and I said no, I thought there was no point because you said the job was filled. So....I went back and talked with the gal who is leaving and she confided in me...said that this guy is a jerk...he lies and back peddles ALL the time...and he is disorganized too! She can't take it any more! So, it is a blessing that I won't be working with him....too much stress working for an A-Hole. So...I e-mailed him a quick note which thanked him for meeting with me, but I was no longer interested in the position! No explanation....I need a nap....uffda! thanks for listening!.....JJ

Whelp - that seemed to work itself out! Darn it! I agree with Celia, she has some good advice. Scrambling to find work to satisfy the pocket is not always the best solution. "Temporary" also had me a little concerned.

It seems that things worked out for the best in this case - sounds like the stress would really do you in working for someone like that.

Hang in there Jill. This truly will work out if you give it some time. Concentrate on your health and what "feels right". Something will happen for you, I just know it will. Continue to put the feelers out there - It WILL happen and it will "FEEL" right when the right thing comes along! Patience my friend!

Lots of love to you,
Mars

Thanks....I know that I am impatient....patience is not one of my virtues. I still don't know how much they are cutting me....or if they are cooking up another little job for me....who knows. I need to remember that my boss told me to wait before I applied at the local Comm College....that should tell me something right there! Nite nite all...thanks soooooo much for your support.....I love you guys! TTFN...JJ
