Is Thorne Methyl guard comparable to metanx?

I know Gabe posted that this is a good product and is the active B's.
Does it compare with Metanx. My prescription is $160 a month now and I'm supposed to take one morning and night. I only take one a day

Hi Connie,

The Thorne product is priced at approximately 20 % of what I pay for a 3-month supply of Metanx (at 1 per day), so this is why I recently switched. But I noticed that after I began to use it, I would wake up feeling drugged, and my neck became increasingly stiff and sore. And unfortunately I also started taking 3 mg of boron about the same time, so I've stopped taking both, to track down the problem. In about 3 days, my symptoms faded away and I no longer wake up feeling drugged. The neck symptoms have almost completely faded away, also. I'm undecided about whether to go back to Metanx. I believe that I'll try taking the Thorne Methyl-Guard Plus again, and pass on the boron, to see what happens.

The only difference in the 2 products (if my memory is correct) is that the form of folate is different, and the Thorne product also contains riboflavin and Betaine Anhydrous (Trimethylglycine). Otherwise, the doses are very similar, for all practical purposes. I wonder if I could be reacting to the betaine.

Anyone else notice any symptoms? Maybe it's just me.

Tex,

I started taking it for neuropathy in my feet and brain fog. Surely it wouldn't hurt if I tried it instead for a month or so. Where do you order yours? Do I just search for Thorne methyl guard?

Also, I promise this is my last question for the day, LOL.

Should I be taking Vit K along with my magnesium and D3?

for me - I am doing better on the Thorne methyl guard compared to my previous situation of taking Thorne P5P and using lingual active B12.
I think having the active B9 is helping my B12 absorption

as we discussed in my other question the only change i have noticed is the fluro coloured poop from the B2 i am not absorbing.

Vitamin K helps to form blood clots. Be careful not to overdo vitamin K if you happen to take a blood thinner. I can't take it because I take Plavix to reduce stroke risk.

I've never taken more than 1, but Metanx is labeled for 1 or 2 capsules per day. Thorne says 1–3 capsules per day.

Thank you, Tex. I am running low on the B vits I have been taking, and decided to buy and try Thorne Methyl Guard Plus. I think I will start with only 1 per day.

Incidentally, I forgot to post that about 2 days after I posted that I was suspicious that the Methyl Guard Plus might be causing neck pain and stiffness, I started taking it again to test it. I've had no return of those symptoms so obviously the sumptoms had been due to something else. The Methyl Gard Plus works fine.

For a moment (before reading your entire message) I thought it was going to be bad news about Methyl Guard Plus. What a relief because I already placed my order. I'm looking forward to trying these.
